What is the correct way to use the pickup booster??

I play On a clean amp and use a distortion pedal for distortion (which is usually on). After the distortion (meaning closer to amp) I put the pickup booster. It definately boosts the volume, but by a hell of a lot. Is this the proper way to use it?

Normally, the pup booster would be first in line. That way, it acts as a "buffer" for the signal chain. Also, it needs to be first for the resonance switch to be effective.

As with all things, you can do whatever works best for you.

there are a few ways to use it, these are the three that i have used with good results.

1- putting it right before the amp just the way you use it, you are using it to boost a clean amp which will give you a real volume boost.

2- putting it right after the guitar before the distortion pedal into a clean amp. this will give you a gain boost (more distortion) with very little volume boost

3- the way i usually use it is as my only pedal running into an amp set so its just breaking up. i get my clean and slightly crunchy tones from the amp and step on the pedal to really push the amp into overdrive which also gives a volume boost but not as much as you can get as in example 1 above

With my Dr. Z I used it after my SD-1 so as to get the grit from the SD-1 and then pummel the front end of my amp.

I have mine right after my first in line Vox wah and before the other pedal effects in my chain...Basically I use mine as an overall lead boost and to beef up my overall lead tones...

I use my MXR Micro Amp at the very end of my board - closest to the amp !

I use it vert close to max. so that it can hit the pre-amp tubes into natural saturation/OD !!!

1. Wait for solo
2. Step on pedal
3. Wail

Just having a guess here :)

I use my SD P/U Booster also with a Boss SD-1 (Super Overdrive). I'm running these into a modded DSL100 (green channel, classic gain) and an '84 2204. Both amps have moderate gain, very comparable. (gain on amps dimed). I set the level on the booster all the way down, (6 dB boost). I use this for a slight boost, for most of my lead work. I will sometimes kick in the SD-1 (level at 11 oclock and gain at about 8 oclock - with a Boss EQ pedal to replace the lows the SD-1 kills) for more crunchy "modern" tones and for extreme shredding.

A third way I run these is to switch the DSL to the clean channel and drop the gain of the 2204 to "4" for a more "traditional" or bluesy tone ala Black Crowes. Then kick the boost pedal for more of a clean boost, or the SD-1 for more of a lead tone.
