What is the difference between a good and a bad pot?

The bad pots can be scratchy and "poppy"

bad/cheap pots also, often don't do too much - ala the standard equipment on a lot of import guitars

If the pot is "scratchy" you can just get some spray cleaner at radio shack and spray the pot. Work it back and fourth and spray again. The "scratchin" should go away. If not it needs to be replaced. Sometimes its not worth the fight to :fix" it. A new pot only cost about $5. bucks.

John's got em for about $5 each. I just bought a couple, my tone pots have been making crazy noise. If they're damaged they can also make A LOT of noise. Lotsa buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...
