What is the least forgiving humbucker?

So I'm trying to make a guitar that is designed to fix my flaws in playing in an attempt to cut back on sloppiness. It's gonna be a single humbucker charvel styled guitar with a single 250k volume and a 25.5" scale. I want a very articulate bridge humbucker that has little toleration for mistakes, almost like a single coil. Any ideas?

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

You might take a look at the Full Shred, and also try playing with a clean sound for much of your practice time- there will be nowhere to hide.

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

Thanks, I hear the screamin demon and jazz bridge also fall into the category of unforgiving. How do they compare?

My vote goes to the Seth Lover set, then the Antiquity set.

HTH,

Hard to beat any one of the PATB series. I've done both the PATB-1 and 3.
Why are you pre-deciding on a 250k pot, before you've selected your pup?

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

Because that's the only pot I have on hand right now. I'd be open to changing it, I'd just prefer to use what I have on hand. And also given that I'm looking for a bright pickup I think it be best to start with 250k and move up to 500k if 250k is somehow too dark.

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

Ok, but pot is cheap. I mean, "pots" are cheap. :D

Dimebucker or BL500XL in the bridge–very articulate pickups so should help you hear your mistakes...powerfully so.

Screamin Demon is an awesome pickup, it reacts extremely well to the volume knob–clear even with the volume knob turned down...another good one to look at.

For single pickup? 59/Custom Hybrid. But I'd also switch to 500K volume (if it had a tone, I might be tempted up to a 1M - and/or a no load tone)

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

Since they were mentioned... Because the Jazz bridge and Demon have quicker attack than most humbuckers, they really "show" you when your playing gets sloppy; pickups with a slower attack smooth that out. Un-compressed lower output pickups such as these force you to control your picking level/consistency. Then again, you can look for amps with similar characteristics to maximize the effect. Overall the Demon is a bit clearer, tighter and more fundamental than the Jazz bridge... The Demon is a decent choice for player improvement.

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

I'm also thinking about scalloping the neck. I know this is off topic, but would scalloping the neck better my playing or only make it hard to play normal necks when I switch back? I'm thinking of having a Ritchie Blackmore style scallop starting at the first fret and progressively changing to Malmsteen style further up the neck.

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

You simply need to go try a guitar thats scalloped, and preferable multiple times. It's different for everyone

Re: What is the least forgiving humbucker?

Definitely try some scalloped ones before you pull the trigger...not something you can reverse and it is very very different.

Practice more. That always sounds better. [emoji3]

I was beginning to think the same thing.

Set your amp dead clean, no reverb, no drive, no delay. Now play your chops until they are right; clean and clear. No need for any new/modded gear until that's done.

I find when I want to play something unforgiving that I can't hide behind I just pick up my Tele and play clean thru the bridge pickup.
