Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

Hmmmm... too many to fit on one Rushmore, methinks. But if I had to limit to 4, I’d have to go with:

Rickenbacker 330/360
Gibson Les Paul
Fender Telecaster
PRS Custom 22/24

If I were allowed a 5th, it would likely be a Jackson Sharkfin V (on behalf of shred-sticks everywhere)

While I’m a fan of Parker’s (I really enjoy my Nitefly Mojo), they aren’t wide enough acceptance to be on the my list.

Obviously, Tele is really Tele/Strat, and LP is practically all of the classic HB models (335, Jr, V, Explorer, etc.)

Rickie may be a controversial choice, but for me, they’re a standout originator, so deserving of that spot on the mountain.

And, I guess I should state that I didn’t even consider acoustics - that’s a whole other monument on its own!

A RR Jackson was there for me and was a coin flip with the Baretta. My reason for the Parker (I am biased I play one) is the leap in technology behind the guitar.

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

Les Paul, Strat, Tele, Lap Steel

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

If we're talking solid bodies, I see 4 basic "food groups" that most manufacturers follow:

Stratocaster
Telecaster
Les Paul
SG

Arguably, "Superstrat" could join that pantheon. You could make the case that a Floyd/humbucker-equipped S-type is a world apart from the 3-single-coil S-type.

Also, SG is also currently not dominant as a food group (not many manufacturers doing that style now), so perhaps the pantheon, as reflected in the current market, is more like:

Stratocaster (traditional)
Superstrat (modern humbucker)
Telecaster
Les Paul

57 Fender Strat
56 Gibson LP Gold Top
63 Gretsch Country Gent
87 Hamer Chapparal Custom

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

I'd put a Steinberger on there just because it ushered in an age of 'futurist' guitars- without it, there would be no Parkers, much less the current popularity of headless and otherwise 'different' instruments.

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

Fender Telecaster
Fender Stratocaster
Gibson 1959 Les Paul Standard
Gibson SG
Gibson ES-335
Gretsch 6120
Rickenbacker 360-12

Versatility to handle any genre, and all iconic guitars.

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

I would think it would have a bolt on , a set neck, a semi hollow, and some futuristic shape

I would say
Strat/Tele
Les Paul
335
And a Vee of some sort
Let's say a Jackson Vee

Re: What is the Mount Rushmore of electric guitars?

Les Paul
Telecaster
335
Strat

All these guitars have spawned countless variations. The quad could also cover just about any style with the right pickups and tuning.
