A2. Supposedly because the weaker magnetic field doesn't interfere with the string's vibration as much as the stronger magnetic field of A5 and allows the string to ring longer and more in tune, especially when fretted up above the 12th fret. I think in so far as single coil pickups go, where the polepiece is the actual magnet, there's some truth to that.
