What is the "Musical Magnet" A5 or A2?

I've heard the term "musical magnet" used to describe both A5 and A2, but what magnet is that term meant to be used for, officially?

A2. Supposedly because the weaker magnetic field doesn't interfere with the string's vibration as much as the stronger magnetic field of A5 and allows the string to ring longer and more in tune, especially when fretted up above the 12th fret. I think in so far as single coil pickups go, where the polepiece is the actual magnet, there's some truth to that.

OK, then what's a good catch phrase for Alnico 5 pickups?

The Vintage Magnet? :)

I don't really think Fender used anything other than alnico 5 for 99% of thier pickups from 1950 to the present.

If A2 is the 'musical magnet, I'll just call A5, the 'musician's magnet' and Ceramic, the 'muscular magnet.' :laugh2:
