Okay, I help with H-Tech (Hiram Colleges sound). And we have never been able to get our monitors to work right. We have the power amp and a beringer board. we have two passive yamaha monitors with two jacks on each. What is the proper why to connect the monitors to the board? we usually just want the main mix to come into the monitors. And how do we control the monitor volume separately from the PA?

Also what if we only use one monitor? Well it always be mono??

Please help this has been driving us crazy.

If they are stage monitors, you need a separate monitor buss and amp for separating the stage mix from the house mix, the Aux sends and Aux outs on the mixer are good for this.

If your amp has enough power per channel, you can run the house from one channel and the monitors from the other channel. I've done this in the past with good results and it also saved on lugging another amp. There's no sense in running it in stereo unless you absolutely have to.

Some monitors have an input and an output, allowing you to daisy chain a few of them from one source. Watch your impedence load if you do this because daisy chaining them is a parallel hookup. Some amps can handle as low as a 2 ohm load but check your amp and monitor ratings first to see how many you can hook up before reaching the amps minimum impedance rating.

Edit: And get a good EQ to put between the mixer and amp for the monitor signal. That'll help with knocking out those annoying feedback frequencies.

If you can describe the whole setup and what you are trying to achieve, we can be of more assistance.
