What is this effect???? :s

Theres an effect i had on my old pedal. I cant recall if it was my old zoom or my old pod pedal that had it (both stolen at a gig grrrrr). It was essentially a sound multiplier. It made it sound like there was more then one guitar playing. It could sound like a load of guitarists playing at once, or just two. It wasn't anything as primitive as a chorus. It just gave that big sound, like a layered recording. It rocked and i want it back. But i can not for the life of me remember what the effect was. Can anyone help?

Re: What is this effect???? :s

^ like EET_FUK said, it's a harmonizer. Boss makes a blue pedal called the Harmonizer that should be exactly what you're talking about. Sounds kinda chorusy if you set it a certain way.

People who steal gear have no respect for the work and sacrifice that it take to become a musician. Musician who steal gear should have their fingers lobbed off.

Re: What is this effect???? :s

I don't think it is a harmoniser. It didn't alter the pitch at all. It just kinda modulated it so it sounded like two or more guitars playing the exact same thing. I also recall it was a dedicated function. Making it sound like 2 - 50 guitars at once.

Re: What is this effect???? :s

ADT perhaps? I know there used to be pedals or hat, but I've not seen one described as that for years.

Re: What is this effect???? :s

ADT seems likely. but i think the effect was a little more than a few milliseconds of stereo delay. But its a ground to build off. Maybe if i do a 3 preamp layer. one panned hard right with a 6 millisecond delay and pitched fraction flat and one panned hard left with an 8 millisecond delay and pitched a fraction sharp. Keeping one centered and unaltered. Possibly adding some sort if auto humaniser. I think I'll get that nice double track sound live.

Some digital all-in-one units have an effect named Ensemble. Think of this as halfway between ADT and chorus. Some very short delay, some slight detuning, some phase trickery, (possibly) some panning across the stereo image.

Googling for the owner's manuals in .pdf form or just the Patch Lists might be enough to jog your memory.

First off my brother...Eff the man who cut down the tree that made the bed that the thief's great great grandparents used to conceive his entire trashy bloodline!!! :firedevil

[now that we have THAT out of the way]
Here's what I'd do.

If you can remember the name of the effect unit that was stolen, look up the instruction manual and the effects should be listed.

There are huge data bases online with pictures and pictures of stuff everywhere, so if you don't remember the name, you might be able to locate it by sight.

Once you get looking, you will most likely remember before you even get to the manual.

Good luck man, hopefully you can replace your $h!t.

^ great idea man

it's certainly jogged my memory; i'm guessing it's based on, if not one of, the original factory presets on the little zoom box.
i'm thinking "stack distortion with delay", and for some reason i'm remembering a 6 in the values somewhere...
o.O

From memory you can set a harmonizer to just double/triple/x up with out changing pitch.

Re: What is this effect???? :s

I think you're on the right track. I'm pretty sure I remember the Zoom patch you're talking about. I think it involves short delays and digital pitch shifting, though I think 6ms is too short - that's flanger/comb filter range.

My guess would be delays around 12-30ms and shifts around 4-12 cents. At least if I remember properly - I haven't messed with this stuff for a long time.
