What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

Re: What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

I own the Fulldrive 2, BB Preamp, and Green Rhino. None of them really sound like a TS with more thickness.

I would say check out the Maxon OD820 -- or, use the TS and add a Nick Greer Sweetback Driver just after it and set for a mild boost. That pedal REALLY thickens out your tone. A more expensive combo would be the TS9 and z.vex SHO.

Re: What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

I've never found a lot of other pedals to be really TS-like even though they are cloning them. There are similarities but part of the mid hump and cut lows is the Ibanez sound.

With that said I liked my Keeley modded Sparkle Drive a lot, I like the Analogman SD-1/808/Silver, I really like the Double Trouble from Visual Sound, for a more transparent tone either a Fulldrive 2 or BD-2 with a Keeley mod (haven't tried the Analogman mod yet for that one may have to order another Keeley Phat mod and an Analogman version and compare the BD-2 is one of my favorite pedals and when modded they really shine).

However I really love the Fulldrive 2 so it's gonna be tough deciding on what to put on my pedalboard I have owned, used, and want so many different pedals.

BTW now that I found the Catalinbred WIIO it's going to make my decision even tougher (I'm a huge Who/Pete Townshend fan) and that pedal basically nails all the guitar tones I grew up with.

Why not give the route66 a try? I've got one and the overdrive has a bass boost plus a tone control and the compressor side has a switch to use for tone control also. I don't usually use pedals but I got this and find it great.

Maxon OD9 is a TS9 killer if you ask me. Similar sounds, more bass. Very expensive though. The MXR Classic OD (GT-OD) is a no brainer, it is only $40 and keeps the low end. Not only is the low end intact, it is very clear and transparent, not at all like cranking a bass knob.

I think I'm gonna have to snatch one of those up next time I see one. I keep hearing good things about it.

The Visual Sounds Rt808 is good. It is the same as the Double Trouble, but only a single pedal.

Re: What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

Tube screamer with thicker gain mod from Stratdeluxer is still my go to OD. Believe it or not, it gets a very convincing natural drive through my bass amp, tons of sustain and can do metal and heavy rock, dialed down to perfect fusion tones ala scofield and old school robben ford/larry carlton. I'm going to post a clip tomorrow, I'm sure it can get sounds that you're looking for.

Funny cause I was going to post that a modded TS pedal is pretty cool...Mine are both modded...I have both a reissue TS9 and a RI 808..

Menatone Blue Collar Overdrive. Low end stays in tact, and it gives a lot of control over the high end (it has a tone and a presence knob). I have one of the newer 4 knob versions, as shown below.

You have modded pedals? I never would have guessed!

The mods you posted for the Jackhammer were real good, John. I tend to like the amp's distortion a little better, but it's really not bad in the cases where I need to approximate a two-channel amp.

Re: What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

Way Huge GR was way too noisy for me. Xotic RC, BB MB and AC are the BEST!

Re: What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

Digitech Screaming Blues, just switched out my maxon OD-808 for one.....

Re: What is TubeScreamer-ish, but thick and rich?

TS-808? I sure love mine. Much nicer than a TS-9.

Sold my Rat. Sold my Fulltone '69. Sold a jillion other overdrive and distortion pedals.

Kept my TS-808 and it and my King of Tone are sitting right where they both belong: on my pedal board.
