What is up with this Jazz?

So a short while back I ordered a Jazz neck pickup. The seller used a stock image, I didn't think much of it, I've never hard trouble when it comes to ordering parts. It arrived in the box, I had a quick glance and moved on to other business as I didn't plan on installing it right away. Stupid move on my part, I know, I'll more thoroughly inspect my orders.

Now that I was getting ready to have it installed, I got a good look at it, I realize that it has a wooden block around the back poles, and it does not have placeholders on the side for screwing it to the pickup ring. I still have the listing archived and it states nothing about it being any different than a standard Jazz.

Wtf is up with this pickup?

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

Okay let me just start off by saying YES I KNOW I AM A MORON AND I WON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN!

I got it about 2 weeks ago on eBay. When it arrived I opened the box, it was a black humbucker with the Seymour Duncan logo on it, as far as I knew, I got what I wanted. YES I SHOULD HAVE PULLED IT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE BACK!!! I left positive feedback in a rush along with my other purchases. The seller did not offer returns. Is there any way at this point that I can still file a complaint?

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

Looks like an OEM pickup from a guitar with some weird pickup mounting system. Maybe a Parker Fly?

If you end up keeping the pickup, you can probably get it back to normal with an aftermarket baseplate, like the ones at mojotone.

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

Looks like it was modified to be a direct mount to the body (like a P-90, soapbar).

I would check it to make sure it actually works. First measure the resistence of each coil. I would be concerned that the holes that were drilled for the mounting screws may have cut the coil wires.

If it doesn't work, or if it was misrepresented by the seller, you can file a complaint with ebay. They can get your money back including any shipping charges you were required to pay.

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

I think with PP/ebay you have 45 or 60 days to file a complaint. At 2 weeks your well within that window. Email the seller first. You won't be able to file a complaint until you've "tried" to work it out with the seller.

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

Is that a Ed Roman blackback? Check the DC resistance and see if it matches the Jazz. If it does I would replace the baseplate and make the seller reimburse you for the replacement.

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

Easy enough to fix, but why bother? That should be an easy return. Anyone who would use a stock photo for THAT THING doesn't deserve your money.

Re: What is up with this Jazz?

if it's not how it was described, send it back.

however, if it is in fact a Jazz, it just appears to be a mod. but the mod is pretty specific and has made the pickup where it cannot be mounted conventionally and would not benefit more guitars without replacing the flatwork.
