What is YOUR fav two delays (analog & digi) ? ?

Re: What is YOUR fav two delays (analog & digi) ? ?

Analog: King of them all, Deluxe Memory Man. Beautiful sound, great sounding modulation, long enough delay time for Edge type repeats, can self-oscilate, it's the delay that all analog delays are judged against.

Digital: probably a 2290, but I don't have one. The Strymon Timeline is a heavily featured delay that does pure digital, digital with modulation, analog and tape simulation, pitch shifted, filtered and tremolo delay, amongst others. You do need to take care to set it correctly, it can sound a bit ridiculous, but set correctly it does a great array of delay type sounds.

Well, based on what I have played:

Analog - Carbon Copy. Just can't beat the price for features / sound / footprint IMO. Modulation a nice touch.

Digi - Boss DD20. Basically because this thing is super versatile, can store presets etc. A great pedal for those who need multiple flavours within a gig.

Analog:
Hardwired Deluxe Memory Man - puts the organ in organic.

Digital:
Strymon El Capistan - It does many tricks, but the one it does best is produce repeats that are not overly digital sounding.

I like the Deja Vu delay. Tap tempo, easy to set quickly, does some cool modulation effects, stereo, and can function as a simple looper in a pinch. It's kinda a hybrid though, so I'm not sure if it should go on the digital or analog side.

Ibanez AD9... why... its the only delay I have ever owned... Its an effect that I use so little of that ive never considered needing to upgrade or look into other units.

Re: What is YOUR fav two delays (analog & digi) ? ?

Analog: Boss DM2, dont own it but liked the way it sounds over the ehx memory boy that i have, not to mention reliable being boss.

Digital: Boss DD3, also dont own it since i have the ehx but that would be my pick being simple & reliable & easy to find being inexpensive at the same time too.

Delays....echoes.....have owned so many....I do not even know where to start!
Analouge, DMMTT EHX......sweet sweet machine, long and lush repeats....and nice modulation.
(if analouge also covers tape, then my old Roland RE 201 is the bomb)
Digital....hmm Lexicon PCM 42....I still regretting selling that thing to this day :D

Experiences very limited so my choices are what I have...

Analogue = MXR Carbon Copy.

Digital = Boss DD-7

I know this is not a 'pure' delay, like the DD-6, or similar, but has anyone ever tried this box ?

It's basically the same for me. I've owned both, and really enjoyed both of them.

Analog - I have a Multivox MXD-5 true analog rack mounted bucket brigade beastie...

Digital - My digital preference is my TC Electronic Alter Ego v2...

Re: What is YOUR fav two delays (analog & digi) ? ?

I had an EHX memory man which was a great analog delay. But the gain seemed to distort too much (I had to bring the gain up fairly high to compensate for volume drop when it was kicked in). I then got a TC Flashbackx4. It's the best delay I have owned, and has an excellent reverse delay which is crucial for me.

I kind of regret selling the Memory Man, under the right circumstances it sounded better than any other delay I have heard, but practicality won out over tone in this case.

I really like my alter ego 2, I'm looking to get an RV3 again though, I miss the versatility that pedal had....

Re: What is YOUR fav two delays (analog & digi) ? ?

I've not played as many analog delays as I'd like. My favorite of those I've played is probably the Carbon Copy.

My favorite digital delay is hands down the El Capistan. It's just an amazing sounding delay with versatility out the ass.

Honorable mention to the Eventide H9's delay algorithms, especially the stereo implementation.

Analog, Roland Space Echo

Digital, 1776 Multiplex
How does the re-6 mode of the 1776 compare to the real thing?

I've only tried The malekko ekko 616 (ver 1) for an extended period of time - I'm contemplating a digital build and I'm trying to decide between the 1776 multiplex (basically for the binson echorec mode lol) and the madbean dirtbaby (pt2399 based dmm)

Favorite analog: EHX Memory Toy. Sounds great, the modulation is sweet if dialed right. Big sound!
Favorite digital: Line6 DL4. Incredible piece of hardware.

LEAST favorite digital: Boss DD5. Sounded bright and cheap, like an 8-bit version. Terrible.

In the whole world of delays, for the past 30 years, these have been, are, and will always be my goto delays in analog and digital for anything!
