What is your favorite overdrive?

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

I'm more of a boost-guy than od guy but when I do need an OD my first choice is the Timmy, followed closely by the original ts808 circuit. #3 on the list would be the boss OD1. Quite an impressive pedal in front of a marshall-type amp.

You would probably like an OCD, if you don't already have one.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

In no particular order:
Seymour Duncan Classic Twin Tube
Boss FDR-1
Boss FBM-1
Wampler 57 Tweed
JOYO Sweet Baby
JOYO Deluxe Crunch
JOYO American Sound
JOYO British Sound
MXR m-133
TS-9
DS-1
Boss FB-2
On order...Tech21 FlyRig5

Favorite? Depends on the amp and guitar I'm using (and my mood, too). I rotate between most on the list from time to time. The DS-1 rarely gets used and the JOYO Amer. & Brit Sound must be used in conjunction with a noise gate due to their hiss, so they're used less also.

I usually have two set up to use: one w/ mild OD and the other with substantial crunch. But as a go-to in the signal chain of an on-the-edge-of-breakup tube amp, I find the JOYO Sweet Baby consistently appeals to my fickle tastes. Believe it or not...the least expensive of the herd. It has remarkable tone. Guess that means it's my favorite.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

My main three overdrives right now are a Joyo Sweet Baby, Mooer Hustle Drive and Mooer Blues Crab. I like different things about each of them, and they all have their uses.

Lately, I've been gassing for a Wampler Paisley and a Mesa Flux Five.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

My favorite OD tones come from my Mesa Mark Series amps. I have a Real Tube 901 on my pedalboard, but it doesn't get used much at all. It does a good job of getting me those smooth tones when I have to plug into a different amp. It has a 12AU7 tube in it, btw.

I'm looking at adding a Marshall-In-A-Box pedal and maybe a fuzz to my board, too.

Bill

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

I use a ts9 and an od1 in front of a Rivera M100. Sometimes a Rat. I have a DS1 but haven't used it since the 80's

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

The one I just built that has a push/pull pot for 9v-18v switching via a charge pump and another push/pull for two clipping choices. Oh and a dymo label name because as TGP proved if you dymo label a tube screamer based pedal you can charge $600 for it LOL.

cool looking pedal. But am I a total nerd for immediately thinking "Doctor Who" when I saw it???

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

I suppose all of my effects are variations of boost/overdrive/distortion: Keeley compressor (which can be a boost if I raise the level past 12:00) into a TS-7 set on hot, drive and level at 12:00 and tone at 10:00, into a Keeley modded MT-2 set to triple rec, volume at 12:00, gain at 1:00, Treble at 1:00, Bass at 3:00, Mid shift to 11:00 with level set at 9:00 and last but not least, a Keeley Katana set on clean mode with the volume at 7. I can use any of them separately to push the amp (either my Picovalve or Carvin XV-212), or various ones in series together, running all of them for a full tilt boogie lead sound.

Hmm, not really.......especially if you're a Brit. Its a pretty big show now, and that theme was used in all ep's of that particular series.

If you thought Dalig Ulv Strand straight afterward then you probably are.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

Bone stock Tubescreamers and the mighty SD-1. I never have and still don't have any desire for any of the boutique stuff
For the price, the SD-1 is just exceptional really.
I tend to use drive/gain on zero on these pedals. Tone usually slightly left of 12o clock, and level set to either unity gain or higher for a hint of compression.
Sometimes I also like an EQ pedal as a boost

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

I don't recall whether I posted it already, but for humbuckers it is Boss' OD-2 "Turbo overdrive" with the turbo off. Just sounds right to me.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

I have the unpopular opinion of having not yet found an overdrive that is any practical use to me. I find for heavy rhythm stuff, the gain on my amps I use sound fine as they are and overdrive colours my pick attack, knocks out the low end and adds a sort of a quack to the high mids.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

Unfortunately I have no way to record proper clips of it, no mics or recording interface.

I can best answer that question by letting you know the other names I considered for it... RYCBAR, Impossible Drive and Trenzalore.

Yeah, I'm a Whovian since the 2005 reboot and have seen every episode, big fan. I wanted to name it something Clara related since I'm smitten with Jenna but Bad Wolf is just an awesome name for a drive pedal and sounds cool even to people who don't watch the show and just see a pedal. I have another variation of it from my prototyping stage that will also be getting a Who related name, just need to decide what.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

My 2 main drives are the bogner blue and the new Burnley transformer pedal which is sweet

Very very cool. I'm a fan too. Freaking Amy, man. I would drink her bath water. I haven't been this struck by a woman's beauty since I was Uma Thurman's eye wrangler on the set of pulp fiction.

Re: What is your favorite overdrive?

I'm going to go with:
1) Catalinbread Galileo if I want bright overdrive
2) Mojo Hand Mystick Octavius if I want broader mids than the Galileo

Re: What is your favourite overdrive?

Tortured valves for me, please.

Not strictly overdrive but I like type of clipping caused by bit reduction. Voilà, a pre-owned Mooer LoFi Machine.

Aye! If that counts as an overdrive I rescind my previous statement. The LFM is a staple of my sound for all kinds of industrial noises.
