Re: What is your main Tube Amp?

My main amp is an old 5150 half stack. It's from the first year of issue, and maybe one of the very first ones that came into Canada. Peavey had it at their Warehouse in Canada and picked it up from them. Love the low end that amp has!!! Plus the solo channel is so cool and it is hard going back to my other amps without a boosted solo channel. I have become so used to being able to get a volume boost for solos i came up with a pedalboard for my other amps to get the same effect. Try using a Boss Line Selector pedal and put one distrotion box in one loop and a more heavy distorted one in the other loop and set it's volume higher. It rocks!!!! But the 5150 is extremely cool and i paid very little for it. Peavey had loaned it out to many artists over the years so it has been on tour more then a few times. I also bought artist loaners of other Peavey amps as well

My Main set up is the 5150 as my rythym and solo channel and then i use an Axess Electronics Head Switcher to switch over to a Peavey Classic 50 head for a clean channel. The Head Switcher works great and allows you to use 2 heads and A/B them into a single cab. Amazing!

My Amp list is this

An Original 1965 Fender Deluxe non reverb combo
5150 stack
Marshall JCM 800 50 watt head from the mid 80's into a Marshall cab
Peavey Classic 50 Head Version
Peavey Classic 30 combo with 1x12 sealed back ext cab
Plus for playing around the house at lower volumes i have digital and solid state amps by Fender, Line 6, Berhinger, and Roland.

My JCM 800 was moddified by someone before i bought it and next month i'm having the gain mod removed. it adds too much noise! It has an extra Pre Tube circuit. A good local tech tells me that if he removes that gain mod he can quiet it down greatly and then he says he can do a EQ mod that will greatly improve the lows and mids. Sounds like what i want. An amp has to have lots of bottom end for me..... That is why the 5150 has become my favourite.
