What kind of solder to use

Re: What kind of solder to use

Rosin core wire will have flux in it, BUT using a separate liquid flux will greatly aid you in making quick, clean joints.

That bottle will last just about your lifetime (unless you go into the pedal business)

You will want a needle bottle for ease of application

John's videos on proper soldering are worth watching.

Re: What kind of solder to use

Reading the debate on power of the iron has sparked a question (apologies if I just missed the answer):

I have a 75 watt, 392F - 896F iron https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0725GYLVH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02__o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have both thin-ish 60/40 rosin core solder, and a thicker one that has no label, but pretty sure it's rosin core (as I got it at Radio Shack) and probably 60/40.

Is that iron powerful enough to not fry a pot when getting wires grounded to it?

Thanks y'all
Jon

Re: What kind of solder to use

40-50w is enough and the melt point of solder is 370F. 450F is probably enough to heat the pot back with enough speed to melt the solder with no damage to internals.
