What about EL84s particullarly don't you like? the fact that they come only the smaller form factor amps? tone or feel properties? and what about those particularly?
Ive been nothing but impressed with the 4 EL84 amps in my studio right now personally.

Ive never been impressed nor ever heard an EL-84 amp i had to have. Yes Brian May has a great sound but he daisy chains anywhere from 9 to 25 AC30's at a time.
All ive ever needed was one 100 watt Marshall.
Ive also come to the conclusion that 6L6's sound good but for Rock / Hard Rock EL-34's sound best in Rock amps as long as you can turn them up.

Just about every EL84 amp I've owned irked me somehow. Compared to 6V6 tubes, the EL84 seems a little brittle and harsh in comparison. I owned an early Mesa Boogie amp with EL84s and I traded it for something with octal tubes. Another reason I prefer octal tubes is I have a stash of vintage NOS octal tubes and very few EL84 tubes. I'm not trying to smudge anyone's perception of what tubes are good, just my personal preference. I like the warmth of octal tubes.
