Hi all,,, i have a Washburn electric, that i bought from a shop in the early 1990s, or thereabouts. The shop owner used to work for Washburn usa, and still had contacts over in the states, so used to go over a few times a year and bring back some stock.
The model i have,, is supposed to be a KC -90 V,, but,,, its far from standard, from what i have been told.
Everyone who has ever played it has been extremly impressed,, even a few luthiers i used to go to to have its twice yearly setup. Doesnt sound or act like any washburn i have ever played,,, now i know the neck has been shaved, and the machine heads changed,, but its the pickups that give it its originallity,, ans sound.
They are all seymour duncans,, but i have always wondered what type they are. ???
Have a humbucker at the bridge, and a single coil at the middle and the neck.
The humbucker has a cream rail , and a black one,, and is stamped on the back "DDJ ",,,,
The single coils are black in colour,, and have the silver magnets / poles in the middle. Have not taken them out yet to check for serial numbers,, but they are all definetly duncs,,,,
Any ideas anybody ?????
I know its all a bit of a vauge discription,,, but short of posting pics,, which i dont know how to do ??

Re: What model duncs are on my guitar ???

Thanks for that,,,
I take it "DD" stands for duncan distortion,,,What does the " J " stand for ????
Any idea what the middle and neck single coils may be ??

Re: What model duncs are on my guitar ???

you'll have to pop them out and see what writing is on the underside for us to be able to help

Re: What model duncs are on my guitar ???

Just taken out the neck pickup,, and its only marking is a white sticker which says " 5R ",,
Its identical to the middle single coil as well.
Both are black singles, with staggered poles, with a thin copper foil surrounding the sides.
On the rear is a very firm peice of black foam, and the " 5 R " sticker.

Took out the middle pickup today, and its slightly different to the neck one, although they look identical.
The middle single coil has the sticker with " 1 R " on it, also stamped into the metal " SD 2 90.

So the humbucker is a duncan distortion,,

The middle sticker says " 1 R "

The neck sticker says " 5 R "

Re: What model duncs are on my guitar ???

experts?

i wonder if the 1 r means that it is an SSL-1 and the R means reverse wind/reverse polarity ... similarly, the 5r could mean an SSL-5 with reverse polarity

the sd 2 90 might mean that seymour wound it in february of 1990?

these are guesses

good luck

Hi guys,,,, just to let you know,,
The humbucker is definetly a " J " wound " Duncan distortion."
The middle single coil is a ( SSL 1 ) " Vintage staggered,,,,,"
and the neck is a ( SSL 5 ) " custom staggered,,,,"

No wonder this guitar of mine is so versatile with its range of sounds and tones,,, turns heads everywhere it has been played.
Every time i have put it in the shop for a setup and returned to collect it, its never sitting in its case waiting to be picked up,,, theres always some member of staff playing it,, with a few onlookers watching,,,

Got a very nice email from seymour duncan this morning with a full explanation of the pickups,, many thanks to the company for the quick and helpful responce,, and especially to all the helpful replys to this thread from you guys,,, cheers,,
