I'd say the 59N or Jazz with a JB...IF high gain semi distorted or saturated tones are your bag. The SD would be way to strong as a neck pickup for me to get any semblence of a genuinely clean tone...over 10K? No way. Also, the Jazz N and JB are what Seymour recommends...so I wouldn't overlook that valuable opinion. ;) Lew

150% '59.. full sweet tone that can cut through, can get a tad muddy in some guitars, but it sings beautifully

I had been an advocate of the Full Shred in the previous forum, nothing changes… the FS has clarity under high gain, IMO it’s a fantastic neck pickup. Another option if you do high gain is the Distortion neck (I have both the FS & the Distortion). I had a ’59, it’s better with lesser gain settings, but one of the best unit if you play clean (the other contender being the Jazz).

Keep em coming guys, the DDn didn't do it for me.
Shouldn't a neck pickup under high gain be a little on the hot side? It needs to compete with 16K

59 would be my first choice. But if u are shred monger i would recomend FULL SHRED. It matches the JB beautifully like the Jazz

Yeah I expected most of the replies to be '59. It was my 2nd choice after the DDn. I liked em both but are too bassy compared to the JB. Switching over from neck to bridge sounds like flipping on a brightness switch. I find the '59 not 'hot' enough and too smooth for this guitar.
I play with loads of gain and tuned a half step down. I like the JB's brightness so I can eq all settings to a bass heavy setting.
I am more of a shred guy than a slow riffer. I play with lot's of palm mutes alternate picking and fast runs and hooks. I need a neck pickup that does great riffing and cleans. JB can do the solo's very nice with it's mid peak that cuts through. Is it possible?
Still leaning towards the SD because it's 10K and has nice cleans.
What do you guys think?

Is there anyone that has a 59N and a Custom For the bridge I just bought these two pickups off of ebay for my LP and was wondering if there a good match together?

Yeah they are, both are PAF type pickups and are supposed to go very well together.
I will try that combo out in my next axe but first I want this one to have the right pickup combination.
Just try those out in your axe and see if you like 'em.

Full Shred...Kinda leaning towards puttin one in my schecter, and switching the DD to a JB.

I have a 59' neck in all three of my LP's and use some major gain!! I've tried the jazz/jb combo, and while its a GREAT combo, or rather the Jazz sounds as described "clear and articulate" it does not do well under high gain IMO. One that I have been considering is the PGn...maybe something to think about.

Cheers Primo.

Hmm I get very different opinions from everyone. And ironicly I found the true sweet spot of the '59 today...somehow I got the feeling that the pickup lowers itself over time...
still a little too much bass but very awesome.
I guess I will just have to make a choice and try it and sell it if I don't like it...My first choice would be the Jazz, let's see if Mr. Duncans fav combo works well under DISTORTION!:D
Thanks for the help everyone, you guys are great.

My Neck PU lowers itself too. Don't know how though.
