Cool! I use a SD-1 as well - I want to know, what differences are noticeable with the mod? I've been thinking about getting this done for some time now, but never really came around to it - maybe this knowledge will help me get on top of this! Thanks.51501984 said:

I have Line 6 DM-4 Modeler but I only use the TS808,Chandler Tube Driver,Rat Distortion and MXR Compressor...I use Boss OD-1 for boosting the input through DM-4 and then Fender Twin Reverb...I've compared OD-1 to the TS808 and I know that TS808 is a great OD pedal that everyone loves including myself but after comparison I personally think that OD-1 sounds a little better and has more focused OD sound to my ears with TS808 sounding a little more compressed than OD-1...Actually they're both great pedals and when I use OD-1 to boost TS808 it gives the best OD sound...with the help of OD-1 boost the compressed sound in TS808 was eliminated...the mixture was the crunchy&crisp sound of OD-1 and warm&sweet sound of the TS808...power tubes of the twin reverb completes the delicious sauce and the meal is ready...bon apetite

I use a an old Ibanez TS-9 Tubescreamer with an IndyGuitarist mod, along with a Boss SD-1 with a mod I did myself, as suggested by Brian Wampler at IndyGuitarist. I also have a modded Boss DS-1, but I'm just using two O.D. pedals on my board at this time.

Back in the "cheap n' dirty" days when every penny counted (now I've graduated to every nickel counting) my distortion was the Boss DS-1. I scraped together whatever money I could to buy one and it helped me create "my sound" for many years.
Fast forward to about 1996 and I bought a Digitech RP-6 multi-effects unit for distortion. I used the "grunge" setting with gain cranked all the way and a heavy "V" EQ setting for extra crunch. Not a bad sound but I eventually tired of it.
I recently bought a Boss ME-50 multi-effects that includes 11 different distortion models. While I've found the "Rat" sound works well in a mix but I find myself most often falling back on my trusty ol' DS-1 settings. I've come full circle.
