What order would you run these pedals?

Wah
Rotovibe
Overdrive
Phase
Flange
Octave
Chorus

I have always ran the chorus last since it is a stereo pedal and I can run it through dual amps. I usually keep it set at almost nothing for the effect.

I was wondering how to run them to get the best tone. My amps also have effects loops, but I have never bothered using them, could someone tell me the advantages of going that way?

Thanks

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

Personally, I'd be running them pretty much in the same order you listed them.

As far as effects loops go, many people swear by them, and many others won't use them. I never have used them. I've tried them, but never acheived a sound that was satisfactory. It's all about the loop levels and getting that right in addition to pedal order and setup. I personally have never cared for the idea of having umpteen feet of cable running between my amp and the pedals both ways. I prefer to just have to do it the one way into the input of the amp. The only way I'm ever interested in using the loop is if the pedal is sitting on top of my amp with some short patch cables, or I am running a rack unit in the loop with short cables. Just the way I prefer it. Others will differ...

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

i'd go...

octave, wah, rotovibe (?), overdrive, flanger, phaser

chrous...in the loop.

i put a (?) after rotovibe because that's the only one i was a bit iffy about since i've never used one myself.

my rig is similar (with a few more pedals) in that i run...tuner, octave, whammy, overdrive, wah, overdrive 2, flanger, phaser, noise gate.

in the loop are two delays.

the best thing to do is just try different things and find the sounds that work for you. that's what i did along with advice from others.

I'd go:

oct > wah > roto > od > flange > phase > chorus

I don't imagine you'd use flange, phase and chorus at the same time, so I don't think those last 3 would matter which order you would put those in... i could be wrong...

Also, I run all of effects into the front of my amp. I never liked using the loop either. Experiment. I hear flange and phaser sound good thru the loop. YRMV.

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

I currently keep the chorus on the lowest effect setting and use it more like an A/B box with just a slight warble in it through 2 amps.

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

1. Octave
2. Wah
3. Rotovibe (I think Vibe sounds best before distortion)
4. Chorus
5. Overdrive (Although I'de use Fuzz instead)
6. Phase
7. Flange

If I was gonna use that many pedals though, I'de also put a Comp after the wah, a Second Dirt box of some sort, and end the chain with a Volume pedal. I'de also Toss a few delay/echo pedals in there at the end too. And most likely a Tremolo pedal right at the end (or just before the volume pedal). And I would be useing an effects loop pedal to run all that stuff in (4 loops). Trying to turn on and off that many pedals at once would be annoying as ****!

So it would actually be something more like....

loop #1
1. Octave
2. Wah

Loop #2
1. Comp
2. 1st OD/Fuzz/distortion (i.e. whatever kind of dirt box)
3. 2nd OD/Fuzz/Distortion

loop#3
1. Phaser
2. Flange
3. Chorus

loop #4
1. Echo
2. Possibly a Second Echo, or Reverb pedal of some sort (only if useing an amp with no Verb, or bad sounding verb).
3. Tremolo
4. Volume (might actually just put this AFTER the output of the loop so it'de always be active)

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

loop in < chorus < rotovibe < loop out < amp input < flanger < overdrive < phaser < wah < octave < guitar

That's how I would do it.

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

Wow!

I use my wah in last position, behind my OD. Guitar->od->wah->amp. Is this "wrong/unconventional?" I've never even tried it any other way.

Well, there's no such thing as wrong, but it is definitely unconventional. Wah is generally one of the first in the chain. In this case the Octave would need to come first, because the wah filter would seriously mess with the tracking of the Octave.

My choice of effect sequence would be Octave > Wah > Phase > OD > Flange > Rotovibe > Chorus. However, this is totally dependent on which particular examples of each effect you're using. I've found the old MXR phasers to work better before overdrive, others may react differently. Likewise, if the Rotovibe is being used as a Leslie sim, I would put it after the OD, whereas a MojoVibe, for example, sounds better before because it doesn't handle overdriven signals particularly well. As always, experimentation is half the fun, and the desired results are a matter of personal choice.

Re: What order would you run these pedals?

I would put the wah first and the overdrive second, with all of time delay based effects in the middle and end.

I am Od->Whah->Chorus->Amp. And no, I would not say this is unconventional, its just rarer, SRV had TS9 and then Whah, I am metal guy and I do it this way too and LOVE IT!!!
