What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

What OD pedal are you currently using? Why do you like it, and what OD pedals did it replace? Distortion? OD? Fuzz? Boost?

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Well I have a few different ones, a DigiTech Metal Master because of the Morph knob, I like the different tones i can get with it. A MXR DD-11 Dime distortion because of the 3-band EQ and killer dist., but none better than my RAT II for simple operation and awsome tone. I also have a BOSS SD-1 Super OD that I dont use much.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I'm using a G2D Custom Overdrive

I like it because it has incredibly varied tones, a great overall sound, and a Solo boost channel (I use a single channel amp)

It replaced a DS-1

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

In a few days, I'll be using a Blackstone Appliances MOSFET Overdrive. It's not replacing anything, just wanted to try one out. I currently have a Visual Sounds Route 66 OD/Compressor that works pretty well. Gives the Tubescreamer sound. The Blackstone should be different enought that they don't overlap.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Oh, I'd love to get an MXR Micro Amp or some other form of clean boost to see what they're like :D

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I was a great advocate and full-on user of Marshall Jackhammer but have just replaced it with a Bluesbreaker II. I love the Jackhammer because it can be very loud in its OD mode - and the Bluesbreaker is just the same but the controls are much simpler, and that's better for live gigs.
The funny bit is that I once had the Bluesbreaker. I sold it in 2000 when I was short of money.
I use the BB along with a Boss SD-1 and Zoom U-1 UltraFuzz - for different colors. But on some gigs I try to play without any pedals at all.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I have used everything from a ts-9 to a big muff....but mostly I have used my amps as overdrive, that is the sound I like the best.
I love powetube overdrive.
But since that is way too loud outside of the studio I use some souped up HDB's from Carl Martin and my prototype overdrive.
Mostly the latter now, replaced the modded HDB's.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I use a Banzai Fireball 2, a H&K Tube Factor and a Boss OD-3. I have used a vintage OD-1 in the past. My amp has an excellent gain stage as well.

All pedals modded by me...

Boss DS1(Mods)
Boss SD1(Mods)
Ibanez TS5(2 of them,1 higher gain mods)
Ibanez TS808 Reissue(Slight mods for more lows and gain)
Vox ValveTone(Mods for more lows)
Marshall JackHammer(Stock)

We play classic rock and blues and though the Vox,the SD1,and the Tube Screamers are all close to the same circuit,I have them setup to sound different and this gives me alot of tonal versatility...

The JackHammer and the DS1 are more in the lines of a higher gain Marshall 800 tone and beyond...I actually don't play with alot of gain and like to retain note articulation whenever possible...

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Barber Direct Drive (full purpose distortion/boost) and Bad Bob Booster. They replaced a channel switching amp with master volume. :burnout:

Fulltone '69 ( best FuzzFace tone I've ever had ) and MIJ Boss DS-1 ( replaced a MIT DS-1 and Keeley modded DS-1 ). I also have a '85 (?) big box Ratt and a few TS-9's but rarely use them. Actually, I rarely use any effects! But if I'm in a Hendrix mood I like the Fulltone '69 and Fulltone Clyde Wah...they are awesome together and get the best Hendrix tone I've ever had. Lew

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I use my modded Danelectro Fabtone as an overdrive now. It's really a distortion box stock, but I've modded it to reduce the gain considerably and now it can be used in conjunction with the distortion of my amp to get a different EQ setting and more gain. I've added another silicon diode to the clipping circuit for sweeter sounding distortion. At the moment, I'm looking to mod the circuits to add in a midrange control and also get more range on the gain circuit using a different pot so I can have slight overdrive and vicious "tear your guts out" distortion from the same box. Space is rapidly becoming an issue unfortunately... ;)

Edited to add the modded TS-5 with a JRC 4558D chip and modded output stage to replicate the TS808. No other mods to this pedal yet.

I love the oldest version of the Boss OD-1!, :) much different and better sounding than the later JRC4558 equipted OD-1. I also use a MIJ SD-1. I use the Boss style overdrives the most but also will occationally use a Maxon OD-808 and a Keeley modded TS-9.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I use two amps, a 69' super reverb, and a Marshall 900. I try NOT to use any overdrive if I can. Certain situations prevent the volume of the Amps to get high enough to get the :natural" overdrive that I desire. In the Fender I use either a Boss Super Overdrive, or a TS9. In the front end of the Marshall I have a Original Bluesbreaker.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

Carl Martin Rock Drive. The pedal I used before that was the BOSS OS-2, which imho, thoroughly sucked, so I ditched it when I got my tube amp. I used the amp overdrive for a while, but didn't get enough clipping for my taste, so I use the Rock Drive to push it harder. Altogether, it gives a nice ballsy tone without being harsh, and the 2 band EQ on the Rock Drive is certainly a nice feature.

The best bit was, the Rock Drive retails for $140 on Musician's Friend. I got it new at a dealer in Hong Kong for the equivalent of US$70 :D If I decide to sell it one day, hell, I could possibly make a profit on ebay :D

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I use an Ibanez TS10 with the 808 mod. Sounds fantastic. I bought an MXR Double Shot Dist. pedal a while ago, but it didn't take long until I figured out it was noisy and useless.

The TubeScreamer is an absolute essential for blues IMHO. With that through the warm channel of my Triamp, I can get really close to the dirty bottom, chimey top end Vox tone.

Re: What Overdrive Pedal are you using?

I have 3 Distortion pedals at the minute:

G2D Custom Overdrive - Used for OD and Distortion on a single channel amp, or with my JTM60 with the gain and solo controls set to 0 and used as a 2 stage volume/gain boost for solo's and heavy rhythm parts.

BOSS SD1 - I used to use this pedal as a very slight Overdrive, or as a boost of my amps distortion. Unused since getting my G2D :)

EH Big Muff - I bought this purely because it was cheap and wanted to see what it was like. I don't use it all that often apart from when I want a weird sounding Fuzz sound, or when doin' some Hendrix ;)
