What pedal would give me some "synth" sounds?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
Not trying to be a synth, just want something that will de-guitar my guitar for playing a few synth lines.

Assuming analog...

EHX Microsynth. Old school.

It was used on "Rock & Roll Fantasy" by Bad Company (the guitar intro)

Re: What pedal would give me some "synth" sounds?

I look at it from the standpoint of an analog synth.

Compressor to create a strong signal
Octaver/harmonizer (POG/Whammy) to generate more tones
Fuzz/Distortion to generate more harmonics (both of which to be filtered downstream)
Volume pedal/tremolo for VCA effects
Wah/auto filter for VCF effects
Phase Shifter and Chorus for doubling and swirling phase
Delay and reverb for lush textures

I use my ZVex seek Trem and seek wah for arpeggiated type chopped/patterned lines and tones.

I think today a lot of pedals will do many of these things for you. Crap, a Digitech Synth Wah can get you analog tones and one of the new digital pedals (EHx, Earthquaker) will probably get you close for digital synth tones.

The final piece of the pie is playing like a synth. Block chording, etc. rather than strumming.

Octave/fuzz -> Vol pedal -> Q-tron

Neck pup, vol and tone rolled off

Modulation or delay after if you want special sauce

Re: What pedal would give me some "synth" sounds?

The Line 6 M5 and FM4 Filter Modeler can do monophonic synth sounds too.

Woah, a boss pedal with normal stomp switches. Never thought I'd see that.

Re: What pedal would give me some "synth" sounds?

I'm looking at possibly getting the new EHX Nano POG. That with some fuzz and modulation will give me the sort of sounds I'm after. I'd like to get the EHX Epitome (POG, Stereo Electric Mistress, Holy Grail Plus) but it's a bit beyond my price range at the moment.

The BOSS GT-100 can be programmed to yield Belew, Fripp, Summers, Holdsworth type noises.

If you have an Apple iPad, consider the Flux:FX app.

Probably over kill for what you want to use it for . . .

YES. The Superego is exactly what you want and cheaper than almost everything suggested already.

I thought the SuperEgo was just a more fully featured version of the Freeze? (Basically a sample/hold pedal with built in transistion/glissando) Still pretty cool, but not too similar to the MicroSynth, IMO.
