What pedals for high gain?

What are you guys using?
I use a Plexitone for most all my type of playing but every once in awhile I want somthing heavier/gainier like some old metallica or megadeath distortion.
I usually just goose my amp od or the PT with my ZW od and it gets me close enough.
Anyone checked out that Krank pedal they're advertising in all he guitar mags? Its sounds like it should be killer but thats just the ad :)
Please dont tell me to buy a Mesa , it doesnt take much to get me spending money as it is :laugh2:

Re: What pedals for high gain?

I would look into some of the digitech stuff. My rp200 is not the best for the mid gain stuff, or overall. But the pantera high gain preset I have on there is awesome. One of their distortion pedals might be just what you are looking for.
And everybody go ahead and bash Digitech, I dont care.

Re: What pedals for high gain?

I wont bash them. I love my GNX3 for practicing, I think the Bad monkey is a little jem and the Hot Head almost does what I'm looking for.

If you are playing the strat in your sig, a bridge humbucker is what you need.

Check musicgoround.com. One of the stores has that Krank pedal for like $99. Also, there's an indyguitarist mod for the Boss Metal Zone that sounds incredible.

Re: What pedals for high gain?

wow..how much gain do you really need?
i find the gain on my PlexiTone sufficient enough for most metallica..
when i want over the top i just hit it with the SD-1

i can't recommend them because i havent used them, but MI audio pedals look really great (and the sound clips too)

also, +1 for the bridge hB if you're using the strat in your avatar

Re: What pedals for high gain?

I dont really "need" any more gain, I'm just curious what others might be doing with all these pedals out on the market.
I have the humbuckers covered too , thats not my only guitar, though it is my favorite :)

Re: What pedals for high gain?

One of my favorites is the Boss Mega Distortion. It gets just as heavy as the Metal Zone, but it is a lot smoother. And I am waiting for a Rocktron Zombie in the mail right now. For a while I was on a big overdrive kick, but now I'm all into heavy distortion pedals. For heavy distortion sound, you are more likely to get it from adding a pedal to low output pickups than from simply changing the pickups.
