What pedals work best in the effects loop?

Re: What pedals work best in the effects loop?

Some will say NO pedals, only rack gear, but here's my opinion... Delay is a must for me, if a chorus pedal can take the signal level, it can work, same goes for flanger since it's basically the same as a chorus. (Dave Fox says not so bother with his TZF if you can't put it in the loop) Tremolo can be great in the loop if that's the sound you want, and finally we come to phaser. The only time I use it in the loop is when I want to get a nasty "electronica" sound, deep woosh with a little grit.

In addition, the loop is a great place for a looper, a noise gate, an EQ and a volume pedal, providing you have the correct impedance.

I personally prefer only delay and looper in the loop, everything else is in front. I also like phaser before ALL drive pedals for standard guitar stuff.

I also have the phaser in front.. Was too prominent when I put it in the loop. For the loop I have a delay and a reverb. I will add a clean boost after the two mentioned pedals.. A clean boost in the loop will increase volume, whereas placing it up front will only push the preamp section harder. Boils down to preference..

I only put delay, chorus, reverb, and sometimes EQ in the loop if I feel like it. I like my phasers and flangers in front.
