What pickups for jazz semi-hollow??

Re: What pickups for jazz semi-hollow??

I have a set of 59's in my Washburn J-9 and they sound nice and mellow. APN-II's would work nicely as well. Duncan also makes Benedettos pickups, which are probably more clear and articulate, but thats just a guess since I haven't tried one myself, but hope to soon.

A set of 59's might be closest to the mid 60's alnico 5 Gibson humbuckers Wes Montgomery used.

A set of alnico 2 Seth Lovers would be fat and warmer and a little clearer. The Seth has a great vintage '57 paf tone. Like the way a '57 Gibson paf might sound when brand new.

A set of Antiquitys would be like the Seths but a little more hollow, complex and textured. Like a real '57 Paf would sound today but 50 years old.

My hubby has a Washburn J-6 Wes Montgomery and he's put a pair of 59's in it. He didn't like the stock pickups much and thought the 59's would be the closest thing he could get to the pick ups that Wes used. I must say it sounds pretty smooth and mellow.

I'm a fan of Seths and they would work quite nicel too.

As for Benedettos never tried them but know they are pretty pricey!
