hey,
i was wondering all your suggestions on replacing the duncan designed bridge humbucker and the middle single coil. i already have a sustainiac pu in the neck so id like the middle single coil to have a warm humbucker sound for lead work. The guitar has an alder body

Re: what pickups sound good in an alder body jackson

sorry i should have mentioned that im mainly into metal. stuff like opeth and arch enemy. the guitar is a jackson dk2s. thanks again.

The DiMarzio Evolution was designed for an Alder Bodied Ibanez Jem... but it's not overly warm... the Breed is a good, warm, relatively high output pup...

Re: what pickups sound good in an alder body jackson

I´d try a duncan Custom or Distortion at the bridge and either a Cool rails or a Hotrails at the neck (or rather middle), depending on which exact flavor you want..... both setups will kill people ;)

alder body? i'll go with zerb's thoughts, except i reckon the hotrail would be a bit muddy in the middle? i'd go with cool rail :)

I have the JBb and CRn in my DK2. Couldn't be more happy!

Re: what pickups sound good in an alder body jackson

There aren't many people who know more about playing metal with a Jackson than Zerb does. I'd start with those. The JB is good (I've got it in mine) but it can be a bit ice picky in the wrong amp. I have a custom custom/HR/CR in my Peavey (poplar body) and I think with the ceramic magnet of the custom, that combo should scream in your guitar.

Re: what pickups sound good in an alder body jackson

thanks guys.

how about a full shred. what is your opinion of them?

Re: what pickups sound good in an alder body jackson

Personally I like the Full Shred but, the custom is my all around favorite!!!!

Re: what pickups sound good in an alder body jackson

i finally ordered a JB today. Then thought id come back and check this thread. maybe i should have gone for the custom or distortion. The Jb is a very versitile pick thou isnt it?

Uh, you're into metal, and it's alder bodied? Alder is (according to Warmoth) the most balanced, so I'd look at a distortion bridge or Custom bridge (if you're into nu-metal) or JB (if you want 80s / 90s / deftones metal).

As for the middle, a vintage staggered (if you want any clean tones at all) or a JB Junior middle. I'm assuming you have a rosewood fretboard. Yes, I just read what the tone wizard said, but I trust it after I put the Hot Rodded combo pickups in my ESP.

VERY versatile. There's a reason it's Duncan's best selling humbucker. It works for some people, not at all for others. You'll just have to try it.
