What pickups to accompany Twang Banger?

Hello all - new to this board, I'll keep it simple...

I've been looking at replacing pickups in my strat. I REALLY like the single-coil Tele sound, and I would really like the gutsy sound of the tele in my strat. I just saw this pickup on the site called the Twang Banger, and I said WHOA! - it seems perfect for me.

I saw some old posts about noise with the pickup, so I may have to pot it / get it potted. I'm not sure if I will, but I may...

I was wondering what you guys would recommend for accompanying the TBer. I'm looking to go all Duncan, naturally, and I was thinking along the lines of the APS-1 for both the middle and neck, with the TBer obviously in the bridge.

Whatcha think?

lots of people like antiquity surfers in the neck and middle, i havnt tried them though

i use a 5/2 in the middle, and a texas hot in the neck.. its a nice enough combo, very clear and warm

I haven't heard anything about noise from a Twangbanger. If you are on a budget I would go with 2 SSL-1's(if you want a vintage Strat tone) or 2 APS-1's(or 2's)(If you are looking for a slightly more moderen but still vintage flavored strat tone), if you really want to get the best a man can get switch the SSL-1's for Antiquity Surfers or switch the APS's for Antiquity Texas Hots. The quest for Strat pickups has been done to death, so there are several really good threads on this...do a search and fine "the ultimate Strat tone" it is a thread that was started by "Lewguitar"...very good read, and most of it is about pickups.

Sorry had to do that, Welcome to the forum. When I rewired my strat for singles I used Lew's ultimate strat tone thread tons, its a very good read. I went with the APS'. I used the APS 1 in the neck/middle, and the APS 2 bridge. The APS' are vintage flavored by with a modern twist b/c of more mids.

i use a pair of aps 2's with my twangbanger and love it!! a great combo.

the aps 1's would work just as well and have a little more spank

I'm one of those guys that just loves the Surfer/Surfer/Twangbanger...The noise is due to some of the TBs having a loose baseplate...Mine had a loose baseplate and caused squeeling microphonics...I just took my plate off,layed a good amount of wax between the plate and the bottom of the pickup,and heated the wax with a hairdryer until the plate sat flat...The TB is a great pickup and a pretty cool marriage between strat and tele in the bridge...

I have a twangbanger paired with 2 SSL-1s, and it's a great combo. I had no noise issues with mine (other than the usual 60-cycle hum).
