What pickups?

I've got a 1986 Ibanez RG530, Basswood Body, Bolt-On Maple Neck, Rosewood Fretboard, two (2) HB's (passive) and a locking Tremolo (Rose Floyd licensed). The stock pups are... not very exciting, lets say.

I had a 1986 RG600 at one time (same thing, but Fixed Bridge, Ebony Fretboard and active pups). I loved the sound of the active pups, as I recall, but that was over 15 years ago. From what I've listened to so far, I don't like the SD active pups or the EMG's that I've been able to listen to on-line.

Ditto on the P-Rails, I don't think they're quite for me. I want a very "musical" clean sound that dirties up well enough to do Classic Rock and Blues.

On-line, I like the sound of Jazz(n) and JB(b). The SD "Pickup Advisor", or whatever it is, recommends that combo or the PG(n) (also my second choice) and Custom5 (that I'm not so sure about).

I (used to) play Folk and Folk-Rock, a lot of CCR too. Now I'm trying to pick up some Classic Rock (already knew some Ventures)... Stones, Cream, Beatles... some stuff like that. I like some of the harder stuff (Deep Purple, AC/DC, etc.) to listen to, but not sure if I'll ever be playing much of it.

Opinions? Concerns? Advice? Help?!!!!

Re: What pickups?

The jazz is supposed to sound more "modern". So given the bands you mentioned, I don't think it would be the best choice. The clips are hard to go off of. Different amps make such a huge difference in tone...

Re: What pickups?

to be honest i dont think i ever ran a search that didnt have JB Jazz in it, wtf is up with that. personally i dont much like either, just wonder why SD thinks they are good for everything. Typically i would go with the other option

The PG(n) and Custom5(b)? COULD be... :scratchch:
