i want to put new pickups in but finding it hard to make up my mind which ones. seymores seem great at a decent price. i am a strat man normally but looking for something with a bit of bite not over the top i play 60`s type stuff lots of shadows beatles ect i want to play the same music but with a bit of grit not clean but not heavy metal. my amp is a pinnacle twin simlar to ac30 but better does clean and dirty, any suggestions please.

Re: what pickups

Welcome to the Forums harrison5!
My suggetion is a Duncan Broadcaster or Jerry Donahue at the bridge and a Duncan STR-2 Hot Tele at the neck.

Re: what pickups

thanks bluesbend i had looked at the broadcaster myself can i ask why not the broadcaster set and why the str-2. thanks harrison

Re: what pickups

I prefer the STR-2 because it's a bit hotter than a standard Tele neck p'up. I can get pretty convincing Claptonesque "woman tone" with it. I have the pair I suggested in one of my Teles and I love 'em. Many folks on here will suggest putting a mini humbucker, P90 or full size humbucker at the neck. All good matches for the Broadcaster or JD. The Tele's strong suit has always been the bridge p'up after all. But in my opinion the best traditional Tele lipstick style neck p'up is the STR-2.

Re: what pickups

Try a Jerry Donahue in the bridge and an Antiquity in the neck.
That's the combination I use after trying several SD models.
JD is just a hair hotter than vintage, with just a little more punch in the low end. Still sounds like a Tele.

Antiquity is also great. It's one of the best sounding pickups I have across 8 instruments. Sounds (and looks) like a real 50's Tele neck Pup.
