Re: What polishes, waxes do you use on your guitars
Once a year, I do the following to all my guitars:
1. Remove strings
2. Remove pickups/pickguard/control cavity plate, check wiring, touch up bad or loose solder joints
3. Scrub fretboard and bridge with an old toothbrush and/or damp Q Tips to loosen built-up gunk
4. Rub lemon oil into the fretboard
5. Clean all finished surfaces with mild dish soap and warm water, dry with soft towel
6. Clean metal surfaces with chrome polish wherever possible
7. If I'm feeling really ambitious, buff finished surfaces with 3M Perfect-It Finishing Glaze (something I got from the Automotive sales guys back when I worked at 3M)
8. Re-assemble
9. Re-string
10. Tune and intonate
11. Admire my beautiful instruments
I refer to this as "Guitar Spa Day". It usually happens in the summer.
So yeah, I don't really use guitar polish. A rag with warm water gets 99% of the gunk off the finish.
