what pots are in a mexi tele? and what do people use for QPs?

Re: what pots are in a mexi tele? and what do people use for QPs?

MIM Teles have come with CTS 250K pots for a really long time and probably still do.

What value you use is up to you, but I believe QPs should work just fine with 250Ks.

Quarter Pounders are amazing, highly underrated, IMO. They're still perfectly fine with 250K pots as others have said, but expect a slightly noticeable decrease in treble response, just compensate with your amp a bit.

CTS 250K pots. They will work with the 1/4 Lbs., but 500K or 1M would be preferable IMO. They help compensate for the treble-attenuated overwound sound.

+1

The machined steel bridge of the Fender MIM Standard Telecaster robs it of treble compared to the vintage stamped steel design. QPs compound this.

For a good while now, the screw holes drilled through MIM Tele bridges have been compatible with the vintage layout.

Try both! 250k is standard, but it only takes minutes (after you take the strings off, etc) to throw in another value pot and see for yourself.

thanks everyone!

I've had the QP's in for a good while now with the standard pots and they sound fine.

I ditched the standard bridge a while ago for a 6 saddle version which is for sure more treble-y.

500k might be fun to try tho

FWIW,I used a 500k Vol(only,no tones connected) in my old MIJ Blackmore Strat(Flat QPs @ nk & br).

Would recommend.

I wish my pots were 500k with my QP's.

Quarter pounders are awesome! The first time Seymour ever made/modified a pup was when he rewound his tele pickup with a record player, and apparently he overwound it. So I guess the quarter pounder is the original SD pickup! Anyway, I'm not too into teles, but they're great pups.
