Re: what sd pick up to sound like gary moore
A few things to consider when trying to get the "Gary Moore sound". a few years ago, I was in love with the "Still Got The Blues" tones. This is what I found through an intense research effort.
1. He doesn't use reissue guitars. He uses "Greeny" and another 59 LP. He uses a 60's Strat as well as an ES-355/335. He did use an LP Double Cut in the studio because he wanted 24 fret access for one song.
2. He really doesn't use the Peter Green mod. He either uses the neck or middle pickup. If he uses both pickups at once, he switches guitars.
3. He doesn't use the now-discontinued Gary Moore sig. LP. Gibson made that model to keep him from going to PRS.
4. He uses an old Marshall Plexi with an old Marshall "The Guv'nor" pedal.
These are all things I found while on the same quest. I did get close but I imagine that as close as I got, if Gary Moore were to play even my current rig, he'd sound like Gary Moore more than I ever could using his own rig.
Good luck and have fun!
