What should I expect?

Re: What should I expect?

Go for the PGs if your LP is a little darker, or you need the higher eq profile.

PGN's are pretty warm, PGB's are pretty bright. For me they're too mismatched to use together as a set. Overall I think Duncan's PAF's sound better than Gibson's, but I'd take set of BB's over PG's any day.

Would I be considered crazy  if I said that I just installed the 490's without any mods and I kinda really like them in this LP.... with no mods or anything. Did Gibson change anything in the recipe in the newer 490's? :scratchch

It's impossible to make PU's that sound identical to each other, because of slight variations in materials, wind tension, and wind patterns. Plus even the same PU will sound different in one guitar to the next, because of the woods and guitar design. 490's are high quality PU's regardless, and some will sound pretty good with the right guitar/amp. But I think you'd always be able to improve on the tone with some of Duncan's PAF's. If you're happy with your 490's no, you don't need to spend any more money on PU's.

I was pretty surprised because of all the negativity that surrounds them and my friend didn't even give them a chance he immediately swapped in the SD Slash set. But I like'm! They aren't harsh or too high at all. I actually think they're pretty bluesy and Have a good balance of that 50's/60's Rockish tone. And I'm just connecting them strait into my amp, no pedals!
