What should I get and what should I know if I want to install pickups?

Hey all, since the Brobucker has shipped and I've decided I'll install it myself, I wanted to know what I should get for installing pickups and changing electronics and such. I already know I need a soldering iron, but any suggestions for an inexpensive one that will get the job done would be very helpful. And other then that, what else should I get? And any pointers or anything I should know about soldering would be really appreciated as well.

Get a low wattage soldering iron (say 25W). Get solder. Work slowly. Ask questions as you go if you are not sure.

People here are MORE than willing to help.

Is there any special kind of solder I should get for this purpose? I won't really be using it for much anything else.

Go to Radio Shack and get a small tube of Silver Solder or any kind with a rosin core. Whatever you do, don't buy it from a Hardware store(wrong kind)

Try the search function. There are some pretty informative threads already in the forum. That's how I learned.

Got my Brobucker today!!! Yeeeee-hawwwwwww!!!

Hey Corbic -
I was in the same situation last week - picked up a new pu and didn't feel like paying sam ash $60 to install it and have to wait a couple of days to get it done as well.
So i went to radio shack and bought the following:

A) 30-watt soldering iron kit (was like $8) which also came with a mini stand, 60/40 resin core solder and some other stuff i didn't use.
B) some xtra solder (~$4), though the solder included above was enough.
C) 22 AWG wire (~$6) which you really don't need - could make due with whatever wire you have on hand.
D) Wire cutters/strippers ($8) - get this, makes stripping wires soo easy.
E) Electrical tape (insulation) and sponge -- didn't buy these, had these.
F) Optional, a multimeter ($20) - use this to check the connections before re-assembling guitar (and finding out it doesn't work).

I practiced soldering wires together the first night to learn how to solder.
Also do a google search on soldering tips online.

As for schematics/wiring, ask the people here. They know everything about everything. They helped me with my wiring.

Good Luck,

jeff
