what should I go with?

i want sweet killer metal tone, creamy distortion, singing leads, smooth high gain, i want to put it in front of my mesa what you all think?

Maxon OD808. SD-1 sounds solid state in comparison, the DS-1 won't work for what you're trying to do. The Maxon and Ibanez both work, but the Maxon has a much sweeter midrange, brighter LED, better footswitch, and overall just sounds better.

Get the Tubescreamer and have it modded for more bottom end and a bit more output (not gain).

maybe I'm just crazy and don't know how to use my tube screamer...but when I think TS style pedals, I do NOT think high gain and heavy metal...*shrug*

Get a Spina SD-1, you wont regret that. Hit it with the level when you use high gain stuff, but on the clean channel with the drive it sounds real smooth and creamy. I love it, couldnt be happier.

Erm... no, not at least for what we're doing. The bass cut is a good thing, in this instance, along with the mid boost and compression.

We take the TS, and run it's controls at 9, 11, and 12 o clock for the drive, tone, and level controls, respectively. Run that into a high-gain amp with the gain backed down a notch, and it tightens everything up. The combination of the midboost, lowcut, and added compression makes everything much tighter, clearer, more defined, more punchy, and cuts through a mix better.

These pedals won't do metal by themselves, IMO, but the Maxon is clearly the superior pedal in my experience...

A Maxon OD-9 would be a great choice as well, it's voiced more like a TS-9 but with all the "cool mods" already built in.

i would get the DS-1 which is more versatile... you can boost it like an overdrive or boost it like a distortion..

You won't get creamy distortion or singing leads while using the Modern mode, but you can't get as good rhythm tones playing on the Vintage mode, IMHO.

Throw an OD pedal ontop to coat it, tighten everything up, compress it *just* enough, boost/sweeten the mids... perfect.
