or rather, how much would you buy one for?

I made these chainmail guitar straps last week and I want to try selling them. but I'm at a loss, how much should I reasonably ask for them? and for that matter, where do I sell them at? lol... eBay doesn't like me...:banghead:

Cool straps bro. How long does it take to make something like that?

Re: What should I sell these for?

Could you make me a blazer and trousers out of that stuff?

erm, it would be really expensive and take forever but i suppose i could.... it would be heavy as hell though unless it was aluminum.

Re: What should I sell these for?

My 'blazer and trousers' comment was a joke but I did see a mini dress made of chainmail one time and the model looked very happy wearing it. It was at Calgary Stampede about 12 years ago.

Re: What should I sell these for?

Materials + time & equipment is where you start. Don't forget to pay labor.

Also - the tabs on the ends look kind of iffy. These will likely be expensive overall, so you should make sure you're using the finest materials.

Re: What should I sell these for?

If it takes a couple of days & the materials are in the 15 to 20$ range I think you have to add in some cost for labor. A hand made guitar strap will sell for about 100 to 200$.

This is one Company that makes "handemade" guitar straps & they start at 100$. Go from there...... If you want to make this a side business make a few for some local players and give a few away. Get them in some local music stores, and maybe setup a website that you can sell them online.

Re: What should I sell these for?

If you're talking about making it a legitimate business to make a living from then you'll need to do something about those leather ends, they're really letting the product down and they're just not good enough to be charging $100+ for. Personally, I'd think about finding someone near you who is already good at working with leather/materials and see if they'd be willing to help you out, whether you're paying them for their work like a sub-contracter or even becoming partners.

If you're just doing it as a hobby to bring in a few extra quid a month then that's different.

Re: What should I sell these for?

Price = materials x 2 + time @ $??.00 per hour

+1 on the ends...maybe try to find some heavier leather, and use some kind of metal grommet to keep the leather from tearing where the rings go through.
