Tapped humbuckers have long been available, a pickup would need to be re-designed for it to habe both little to no string pull and still have decent output, make yourself a baseplate, it's not that complex, yo.

1. By "tapped" Humbucker I didn't mean splitting the coils. Cause thats not called a "tapped humbucker" thats a "Coil split". What I meant is, Haveing Two completely seperate wires running around each coil (like Hot singlecoils have). So that if you run both sets of wires on both Coils you get an output of say 8k (per coil), and If you only a single set of wire on both coils you get 4K(per coil).
So you could have a 16k (highoutput) and an 8K (vintage) output from the same pickup.
2. The Pickup itself would not need to be "re-designed" to work with a magnet with little or no string pull. The MAGNET would need to be re-designed. I said nothing about changeing the pickup. If I wanted pickups with no string pull, but didn't care about them having a totally new/non-vintage design. I'de buy lace, or Emgs.
3. I know I can make a baseplate for myself. I have done it. I don't need permission. And your right its not complex. But if duncan was to market pickups with Ferrous baseplates. More people would get to check them out. Without actully haveing to build one themself.


GZeus if your not capable of coming up with Ideas of your own. Then perhaps you shouldn't Give other people $hit about theirs. I know its easy to just come here and give other people crap, and make yourself feel better or smarter (the first sign of an Insecure person is to try to make themself feel smarter than others.). So if ya wanna do sumthing like that I suggest going to a Bar and doing it. So that when you play your lame little kid games, sumone will have the opritunity to beat the hell out of you. But being insecure I know you won't (fear 0f beatings).
And also. What you Said to With Full Distortion just was NOT kool. Giveing sumone Crap like that is not only totally ****ing wrong, but just (yet again) proves your insecure. English isn't his First language. And its not kool to give him **** about it. He can Speak TWO languages, how many can you speak?
Americans (like you) saying stuff like that is alot of the reason everyone else on the planet hates Americans. Quit being a ****y prick, and start proveing your intelligence by doing sumthing. Cause someone can talk all day about how smart they are. But Talk means nothing.

Instead of makign that stupid variax guitar Line6 should have just made a pickup modeling retrofit kit. I'd love to be able to switch from an EMG to a JB to a Classic '57 on my Les Paul at any given time....it would be the ultimate in guitar versatility.

That would be very cool, if it is at all possible i could see it being done. It would be great to have all the various pickups right at your fingertips in whatever guitar you please.

1, I know what you meant. And they HAVE long been available.

There's a reason Bill Laurence and LAce Sensors are so different in design and have virtually no string pull, it's becasue the way they work is different.
3, MAKE THEM AND SELL THEM.
If you can and have, you can fill that space in the market.

Have I had a few ideas for pickups in the past? yeah.
I just didn't think too hard about it becasue I'm pretty happy with what's available and most o them are available already, once I looked hard enough.

I speak English, Japanese and a LITTLE German.

I'm not complaining about his grammar, I'm complaining that he speaks non-stop nonsense regardless of grammar.

"I want pickups that rock cosntantly but come with totally different sounds that still sound goood all the time" is basically what he says EVERY TIME.
but he'll add it "I should sound like a cross between pickup X and pikcup Y with the certain properties of Y and other certain properties of X but it would have something else added in and use some oddly specific part that has no bearing on function"

I've also thought about the powering of active electronics through the guitar cable but that's not possible. While the amp takes AC for its power, active electronics use DC, and a very small amount of it, so that means an AC to DC converter in the amp and then a step down transformer to get it to 9 volts. The amp would have to be modified to supply the correct amount of DC power not to mention the jack changed on the amp for a dedicated DC line, then you have to have a special cable. Here's where the problem lies. You can only play the guitar through the modified DC supplying amp, not any others. Good idea, but not worth it in the long run.

How about taking a cue from Line 6. The Variax can be powered by an external power supply through a TRS (i.e., stereo) cable. Instead of having the amp provide the power, you could have a power supply on the pedalboard. It's simple and would probably work.

Do you realize how much circuitry goes into the Variax? DSP hasn't gotten to the point where you can do those sorts of processing without a whole lot of extra routing to accomidate the circuit boards.

A humbucker made from two P90 coils. If this is done already, who makes it?
