What speaker has a bit less high mid response than the Vintage 30?

That 's the question. Can the VIntage 30 be shrill? I am finding mine to be a bit shrill, and I am wondering if there is a speaker with a bit less upper midrange response.

Greenbacks have less bass, so that doesn't solve the problem.

Can anyone help?

I haven't compared them, but the Eminence Governor is supposed to be similar to the V30. I have one in a mixed 2x12, so I am not totally sure of which speaker is responsible for which contributions to tone, but I don't notice any shrillness. But the mixture of the Governor and Wizard (G12H copy) I have gives a strong midrange response, which I find to be perfect for lead runs.

Yes, I've heard that the Wizard is a G12H30 copy. It reportedly has more bass than the V30, but how do the highs compare to the V30?

With the Eminence speakers I have, the treble response is clear but not shrill. I don't really know how they compare with the Celestions because all of my speakers are Eminence.

The G12H has more highs than the V30, but doesn't have the upper mid hump that the V30 has. The mids are more balanced, making them great for amps with a strong midrange push.

I got a wizard the other day and love it. IT is a G12H-30 that can handle 75 watts. It has thick mids, deep bass, and the highs are sweet. Great alternative. IF you want the vintage 30 style with a smoother sound the the governor it a great choice

From what I"ve seen here on this forum, Lewguitar seems to be the resident expert on Celestion speakers. Hopefully he'll chime in here with some great advice.

Are using any kind of a beam blocker on the V30's? If not, that would help. The speaker your probably wanting is the G12H30 or eqivilant. It's midrange empahasis is shifted down compared to the V30, but still somewhat similar in most other respects, including bass response. Mixxing G12H's and V30's is the right solution for many.

I'm sure Lew could give better answers too.

I mix them and love it. I only bought the wizard because my 2nd amp would have blown a 30
