What Speaker Should I put in my new(used) Peavey ValveKing?

It's all in the titlte.

I just recently bought a valveking 1x12 used off ebay for about 275(still waiting for it to come), and from playing them at GC and my buddies place I really dig them for the price but feel they could do a little better with a speaker change. I am really not sure what speaker to go with though. Has anyone out there switched out the stock with good results?

I've been looking at eminence and celestion speakers. I will be playing mostly metal with this, but can really get into more bluesy rock too and will be using the clean channel a bit... I've been thinking bout (for eminence) the swamp thang or man O way, and(For celestion) the V30, G12-75.

also really quick, this will only be my second speaker change and my other one was with a 15 watt blues Jr. (which i didnt have to worry about this with as much), but what is the lowest wattagespeaker I can use without blowing it or hurting my amp? the valveking is 50 watts.

I would definately take a V30 (or eqivilant) over a G12T75 (or eqivilant) for any type of rock. I have used the stock V30 in a particular 50watt 1x12 for years, so modern 60-70 watts speakers can usually handle a 50 watt amp okay.

Another one to look at is the G12-65 (or eqivant-Tone Spotter in Emi's Redcoat line I think). You might find it a little more "refined" in the mids than the V30, but not "thin" in the mids like the 75.

The V30 has become almost the standard for modern heavy rock, but it was originaly modeled as an ceramic alternative to an alnico, so it was also designed with a chimey clean in mind too, and it is therefore a bit brighter in a combo, but it doesn't have that razer sharp treble that many find so annoying in the 75.
