What Speakers for Fender Twin?

hey guys....i'd like some suggestions for replacing the speakers in my twin........ currently there are 2 JBL speakers, and while i like the sound, they are kind of "hard" sounding, and a little too dry sounding

id like to kind of get a more lush sound, without sacrificing efficiency and loudness........ something thats a bit similar to whatever would have normally come in older twins......... but i still want efficiency and volume to be good, so no speakers that will fart out on the bass

2 12 inch speakers obviously

any suggestions, i honestly have no idea right now.....

Flank,

We have talked about this before and the ting you are saying you don't like abou the JBL's is the same thing I didn't like! I put a Set of EV's in mine...they are ot your everyday 12's but if you want the full scoop PM me, and I'll give it to ya!

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

Yo Flankman :D What kind of JBLs do you have? They are not all the same. I really like the d120f JBL in a twin. It is very clean with a little bit of color.
I also like the c12n Jensen, or F150 Weber, which is very similar to the Jensen.

None of those will fart out with volume and bass. Those models are pretty typical for old school twins.

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

actually, i have an assortment of JBLs laying around down in my basement......there all my dads back from the 60s, he doesnt have any of them in use anymore so there just collecting dust heh

ill go see what the model numbers are

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

just any suggestions or pointers would be cool........nothing solid, just some places/brands to look for

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

My favorite speakers Fender ever used in the Twin were the '66 Jensen C12NA's. The new Italian made Jensen C12N's are good, tho not quite the equal, but they'd be worth considering.

I'd go with Celestions...they are my favorite 12's.

A G12H-30 and a Vintage 30 would be nice...or two G12H-30's ..or two Vintage 30's.

A buddy of mine uses a pair of the Celestion G12M70's Modern Leads and those have smooth highs and sound great in a bright amp and will tame the edgey highs a bit.

A pair of Classic 80's would be nice too and those have a little more of an American tone.

i had a g12h/v30 mix in my twin, killer tone. full warm punchy articulate and very thick when you crank the amp.

alnico webers are killer too

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

Best sound I heard from a Twin was wtih a pair of Vintage 30's. Warmer and rounder, but still had enough muscle to hang. :burnout:

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

i used to have two vintage 30's in my twin and as good as it sounded, the mismatched pair sounds soo much better.

i think i got mine from avatar cabs

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

I have a set of Webers in my Twin. I have a blue dog and a silver bell. they added a lot of warmth and took away most of the sterility of the tone. I highly recommend this for a more vintage tone!

Re: What Speakers for Fender Twin?

I used to use Celestion G12M70's in my twin. The treble knob was very touchy with them speakers a Hair past 6 it was to bright a Hair toward
5 it got muddy. But over all It was a great setup IMHO. That amp now
belongs to my Bro-in-Law. He put EV SRO's in it. I haven't played thru it
yet with the SRO's But I heard him playing and it sounded pretty Good.
(LOUD!!) I've been lead to believe that a pair of JBL D120F's are the
wholly grail in a twin? Maybe yours need a recone? I just got my Weber
cali series today for my Princeton reverb  So far I'm loving it !!
BTW, The Cali series is Weber's Idea of a JBL D-110. Maybe some sound
clips when it breaks in????
