What speakers for Vibrolux?

It's time to change the speakers in my '68 Vibrolux and would appreciate your input as to which speakers I might choose. The style of music I play is extremely broad so I am looking primarily for versatility first. But I'd like to hear everyone's opinion who's willing to share it. Thanks in advance, folks.

I'd go for a pair of the Weber 10's that Ted Weber used to call his "C10Q"...he has a new number for them now. They sound almost exactly like the original '66 Jensen C10N, the finest speaker Fender ever used in the original blackface Vibrolux.

Ted also made a speaker he called the "C10N" but it lacks highs compared to the speaker he used to call the "C10Q". Just call Ted and tell him Lew Collins recommended the speakers he used to call the C10Q and don't let him talk you into anything else! :laugh2:

The speakers Lew is talking about are now called 10F125's and they are amazing, Ted will try to talk you into the 10F150's but they lack highs and just don't have the same cool tone of the 10F125's.

Now...about that reverse angled bridge pickup in a Jimi style Strat (you know: basically a lefty turned upside down and restrung righty) ....do you find the tone thinner than if it were angled the "right" way?

FWIW, Ted doesn't have a stock pile of any speaker...all Webers are made to order and that does invlove a wait but it's worth it...order a pair of 10F125's and ask for light doping. Those speakers sound great out of the box but belive it or not they will sound even better, fuller and louder after you break them in!

I see a few different versions of the 10F125 out there (10F125, 10F125-O, 10F125-P). Looks like the 10F125-O will break up pretty early, the 10F125-P incorporates a little British sound, while the 10F125 appears to provide the cleanest output. Any experience or insight with these models? Which specifically were you referring to? Based on those descriptions, I would have to think that the straight 10F125 would be the most versatile, but the 10F125-O might be better for heavier blues, etc. Thoughts?

The 10F125-O has a smooth cone and the best way I can describe it to you is that it breaks up very early and sounds "cheep", the 10F125-P has the same cone Ted uses in his Celestion clones and it has a brit vibe...the 10F125 with the ribbed cone sounds like the old Jensen C10Q...thats the one to get.

What about the Alnico version of the Webers? I know most of those amps came with ceramics, but mine has replacement late 60's/early 70's CTS Alnicos and they sounded pretty good even before the total rehab..........that is being done now, so I will let you know how it works:fingersx:

i have a weber 10a125 (his p10q) and its a great speaker mixed with a 10f125 (his c10q) its probably a killer combo

The alnico 10's fender sells and I believe are made by Eminence sound pretty good in mine
