So I go to this little out of the way family owned music store in my area, because they have a Jet City 2x12 cab listed on their website. When I get there, the 2x12 is no where to be found, but they show me a Jet City 4x12 cab they have and offer me a smoking deal to get rid of it, so sure enough, its at the house now. Its way over the top for home use, but it pairs up nicely with my Jet City 20 watt head. So anyway, I have 2 vintage 30's that I put in it, upper left, and lower right, and left 2 of the stock speakers in it. What would be a good match for the Celestions if i want to replace the 2 stock Eminence speakers? Think KISS, Motley Crue, Rush, Judas Priest etc. I could just get 2 more V30's, but i know a lot of people have had success mixing speakers to tweak the tone.

i love mixing g12h-30 speakers with v30. a rock solid combo for lots of styles. ive been running that pairing for years

V30s and H30s are awesome for just about anything you will throw at it, from blues to heavies. Just think, most heavier bands out there use the V30 as their speaker. The H30 is what Iommi has used for....ever, I think. The V30s have all those big mids, and the H30s fill in where the V30s can't get to, like the crunchy top end and big lows. The V30/G12T mix would be great if you want to do heavier stuff, but I would still prefer the V30/H30 for it's better "all around" nature.

Yep another plug for the V30/G12H combo...I do also use just the V30s alone and love em..The V30s need a bit of time to break in and sound harsh as new speakers..I'm not up on the newer current V30s,as I know they are made elsewhere these days...I use the earlier V30 versions..

Here's some solid choices:

V30/G12H30
V30/CL80
V30/GT12-75
V30/V30

I like mixing V30s and G12M-25s, but it's more of a warm/dark rock thing IMO.

That said, I usually use all V30s. More of a punchy, percussive response than mixing IMO.

I've got 2 Avatar closed back slant 212s. They don't make them anymore. Each has 1 Vintage 30 and 1 Eminence Legend GB12. The combination sounds phenomenal.

The Avatars came loaded with Eminence Legend V12s. I originally left one V12 in each cab and added a Vintage 30. That combination also sounded really good.

I've got the Eminence version of a G12H30/Vintage 30 combo. That would be the Wizard and Governor pair. They work brilliantly together, much better than two Governors paired together.

G12H30s for sure. I have that V30/H30 combo in all of my Splawn 4x12 cabs and it just kills. I used to run all V30s 'til I bought a used Splawn cab with the V30/H30 X pattern and it was like a blanket was lifted off the cab and the whole tonal spectrum was covered now. They really do fill in the EQ blanks of each other since the V30 is very mid heavy where the H30 isn't. Such a great speaker combo.

Re: What speakers to pair up with Vintage 30's

I use a Mesa DC-3 112 V30 combo, and sit it on top of a Mesa 112 EVM Theile cab. I think the ported EVM Theile fits perfectly with the open back V30. That is a 35-watt amp, with a small stack footprint, that can terrorize most halfstacks.

But if you are going to put EVMs in your 412 cab, might as well put your chiropractor and massage therapist on retainer!
