What speakers work well with orange amps?

I am thinking about swapping out one or both of the vintage 30’s in my rockerverb 50 combo. They don’t sound bad but I have never been a big fan of their scooped sound. I wouldn’t mind trying something to mix with one of them.

My niece is borrowing one of my 2x12s that is loaded with two G12M Heritage greenbacks. She uses a Micro Terror. It just sounds wonderful at moderate gain levels through those speakers. I dom't know how much gain and distortion you use, though.

Re: What speakers work well with orange amps?

Of course describing sound is difficult but I've never heard anybody refer to the sound of V30s as scooped. If anything there's a upper mid spike that really makes them cut through a mix. And reading your initial question the first thing that came to mind was "don't lots of folks like V30s with those"? So perhaps we need to start over with some more info.

Re: What speakers work well with orange amps?

I just built a cabinet for my Micro Dark. It’s a 1x12 with an Eminence Legend, which I think is similar to a Greenback. It sounds really good, not scooped at all. Bear in mind this is my first foray into speakers, so I have zero frame of reference, aside from sounding better than the 8” Orange cab, and bigger than the 10”s in my Super Reverb.

Re: What speakers work well with orange amps?

I usually use greenbacks and tried a creamback awhile back that I liked. But I’ve only used those with Marshall’s. The vintage 30’s don’t sound bad but they seem to be pretty focused and harsh. Some of it could be having to get used to the amp running 6v6’s as I’ve never used them before.

I wouldn't describe the V30 as scooped in any way. If you do think it sounds a bit harsh, though, I would suggest trying the Creamback-H.

V30s sound great with Orange amps. Orange amps are kinda dark, and v30s are bright and middy. It's a good mix for gain.

Re: What speakers work well with orange amps?

I have three cabs, one with a pair of Emi GB128s and they have THE classic sound. My other 212 has a pair of Cannabis Rexes, and they are SO warm and clear. They really let you hear the amp with no speaker breakup at all. MY 412 has Celestion G12M70s, and it is super crunchy and low efficiency, so you can really crank the amps up. Very mid focused and rock sounding.

Depends on which of my Oranges I use as to which I prefer...the OR15 into the GB128s, and the rest through the C Rexes, especially the OR50. That amp loves those.

Re: What speakers work well with orange amps?

I have several cabs that I’ll use with my OR15, but 9 times out of 10 it’ll be my Avatar 2x12 loaded with Eminence Swamp Thangs, or an Eminence Big Ben 15” in an old Carvin bass cab.

This is the first time I've heard anyone call a V30 scooped! If anything, they push the mids. I think Oranges are kinda designed around that, but I could be wrong, I've not really played many Orange amps. If you want something more balanced, the Classic Lead 80 is a good choice, but sorry, can't comment on how it will sound with an Orange.

Vintage 30's aren't scooped, LOL.

But me and my former guitarist really liked how his Rockerverb sounded through my cab with Creamback H-75's and Relic 30's. The Creambacks are particularly awesome. :)
