What Straplock are you using?

Re: What Straplock are you using?

Dimarzio clip-lok. Never had any problems.

I think schaller and dunlop straplocks look really clunky.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

Another DiMarzio user here. Although, i prefer the cotton straps to the nylon straps. The cotton straps have plastic ends that the screw goes into, as opposed to the nylon straps where the screw just goes into a hole in the nylon. i've had the strap slip off the screw on the nylon ones.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

Well, I got my Jackson back today and I had the shopownwer install pickups and he decided to also install the Dunlops. I picked up some Schallers went home and decided to unscrew the Dunlop pins- which I think he powerdrilled in (because they were tight when I tried to unscrew them manually)- and the the back pin broke. So... I'm going back to Schallers.

Sucks too... I had to dial in the pickups without a strap- which turns out wasn't as bad as I thought it was going ta be. I sure was depressed about it at first though. :chairfall

Re: What Straplock are you using?

I've used Schallers since i got fed up of my strap slipping off before i used locks. I have had no issues with the Schaller design and i havent even used loctite. When i was briefly looking into which to choose out of Schaller and Dunlop, the Schaller design seemed better, and it seemed less could go wrong. So far so good. I have used washers on a cheap guitar of mine which i sold off a while ago. Cant go wrong with that if you wanna save money, but you cant take the strap off the guitar.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

I'm a fan of Schallers too..Dunlops I like, but I prefer schaller.

I've been wanting to try one of those Dimarzio Clip Lok things..if only for the fact that I've come to the point where I don't care for leather/suede/padded straps anymore. Granted you can use whatever strap w/ normal strap-loks, but the all in one package of the DiMarzio just seems like an inexpensive "kill two birds with one stone" type thing.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

I'm using both Dunlops and Schallers on a couple of my guitars. I like 'em both a lot, both feel solid and tight.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

i have 2 sets of schallers, 1 set of dunlops, 2 sets of grolsch washers, and one set of metal washers. i havent had any problems with any of them. actually on one of my guitars, the strap buttons have such wide tops that i dont need straplocks at all. its damn near impossible to take the strap off, so its pretty safe.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

Wow great breakdown Dave!

I've had one problem with my Schallers and that was the lock working its way out of the strat, kind of a freak deal really.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

I don't use any straplock on my Strat or my Music Man SUB bass. The Strat is so light that even if the strap did pop off the button I could easily catch it. It's never happened before. It's also never happened to me on my current bass or my previous Fender Deluxe P-bass.

However, my Gibson is another story. The strap always wanted to fall off the button by the neck. I at first tried the Jim Dunlop Dual Design strap locking system, but I hated it. It just looked big and bulky and rusts too easily. About two weeks ago I finally said to hell with the Dunlop and ordered a Grover strap lock system from Allparts for the Les Paul. I love them! They are normal sized and has a cap that screws into the button. For my purposes I don't need a quick release system so they are perfect.

They have three designs for the caps: a star, skull and iron cross. I went with the skull personally. Anyways, you can check them out at:

and scroll down towards the bottom of the page. $5 cheaper than the Dunlop Dual designs and they look a whole lot better.

i had those Grover strap buttons with screw-in cap in my LP before i put Schallers. and all i can say is i'll never put one on a guitar again. the strap will still come off the button specially on a LP.

Re: What Straplock are you using?

Where can I research the Schallers and do you have a leather end on your strap? (for example I use the traditional Gibson lighting bolt strap which has good leather at the end).

I will definitely look into the Schallers IF I end up having a slip problem.
