What strings and picks are y'all using?

My Tortex seem to last forever. Bet I have some from the 80's or early 90's still in some cases. Relatively confident I have purchased 2 of the 72 qty Yellows since the 80's.

The Gator Grips I tried were easier to hold on to, but I could grind the tip off in one rehearsal or show.

I will see if there is a Delrin in my Multi-Jazz III bag as I do not recall ever trying Delrin.

i wear tortex down eventually, even ultex. i like delrin picks, but want something bigger than .71 and smaller than .96 which i havent found.

I'm always intrigued by folks who keep the same gauge across different tunings. For myself, I need the tension to stay relatively the same no matter what tuning I'm in, so I always match gauge to tuning.
I used to do this - 10s on Gibsony things etc., but I just prefer the feel/sound of lighter strings nowadays. I don't think about it really; I have several different guitars which I rotate so I've gotten used to going from one to the other.

My SG in particular has pretty small frets, and with thicker strings it didn't feel as good to play, maybe fine if you do those Les Pauls style licks (the SG was meant to be a speedy, light jazz guitar originally, after all 😄), but for bending and so on, less positive feel. Used 9s for a while on that but after switching to 8s, think I'm might keep it that way.

Imo, 9s in Eb feel pretty similar to 8s in standard. I have this on a single hum Floyded guitar, obviously (not a Kramer or EVH brand) ;).

I've been experimenting with string types and gauges the last few string changes. I used to use DR (Tite Fit or Pure Blues depending on guitar) exclusively but found that I really liked the NYXLs that came on my Strandberg. The 9.5-44 set on my LTD Serpent is tuned to Eb and feels just about perfect.

Picks these days are Jazz III Gator Grip.

Most of my guitars that are tuned to E standard/Eb have Ernie Ball 10-46 Cobalts
Drop C# guitars have 10-52 Cobalts
I use Dunlop Tortex Jazz III .88 and 1.14 picks depending on what style im playing.

D'Addario XL 11-56 in Drop C. I used to use the NYXL's, but kinda dig the mid bite of the regular XL's better. Plus they're cheaper.

I use Dunlop Tortex Jazz III .88's, but I go on on and off. I also like the Nylon red Jazz III's, but sometimes I feel their attack is too smooth. The Tortexes feel snappier.

Wait. There aren't just Dunlop Tortex picks. There are regular tortex, flex tortex, flow tortext and TIII tortex. Not to mention all of the above as triangle, too

Ernie Ball Slinkys (beefy bottom skinny top) or regular 10s for std tuned guitars.

Picks I use the max grip .88 or the acoustik STEALTH glow in the dark ones.

There is something special about strings 10 or smaller on a C# guitar though. Under-tensioned strings hitting a tube amp being pushed within an inch of its life is something else

Yeah, Tortex wears down fast. It sounds nice, though. I guess because it's so ubiquitous, that's kinda what my mind thinks a pick should sound like. Maybe that's just me.

I usually buy mine in those 72-pack. A single pick usually lasts me 2, maybe 3 sittings. When I used to play more, and I played harder and faster, and I would get only 1 sitting out of those.

I use EB or D'Addario 9.5-44s and either Clayton Acetal .50 Large Rounded Triangle or Ibanez Elastomer 1mm Large Rounded Triangle in soft or hard

For acoustic I use Martin SP Phos Bronze extra light

I'm sure the tone is great. I just don't think I could deal with how loose 10s would feel in Db.
