What strings are you using?

Due to my lack of originality (and because I learned a couple new things in the pick thread), I now bring to you the "What strings are you using?" thread.

I've lately picked up on the GHS Santana "Big Core" strings 9.5-43 set. Nice tone, string balance, feel, and life.

I used to use the Ernie Ball Super Slinky and Regular Slinky's a lot, but ran in to a rash of them breaking on me.

What say you?

Re: What strings are you using?

i usually use DR tite-fits, 10-46. they're great, round core-round wound. i also like the hex core jimi hendrix nickel-plated steels, they feel real smooth and have a certain high-end chime to them. i also like the DR pure blues all nickel round cores, but have only used them a couple times. they're really warm and great for cleans, though very hard sounding with too much distortion.

Re: What strings are you using?

dean markley 11-48s, d'addario 11-49s or 10-46s of either, depending on scale length and tuning
really want to try some flatwounds at some stage

Re: What strings are you using?

DR Pure Blues 9-46 for electric. Medium Elixir Nanoweb for the acoustic.

Re: What strings are you using?

oh yea! i use either 10s or 11s of the new ernie ball titanium-ended strings. they're nice and bright for my extra dark sounding import guitar, with a nice harmonic compexity to them.

Re: What strings are you using?

Ernie Ball Slinky 10's, 11's once in a while, and sometimes the 10-52 set. I like the D'Addario Phosphor Bronze on acoustic.

Re: What strings are you using?

Ernie Ball .11-48 power slinky's and .10-.52 skinny top heavy bottom's for drop tunings.

Snake Oil Brand, Rock Formula, 11-48. Best strings I've ever heard/felt/used. Over the years I've used Ernie Ball, GHS Boomers, D'Addario, DR, Martin Electrics, Dean Markley, Thomastik, Picato, Elixers, SIT, Fender and several others I have forgotten. IMO, Snake Oils beat them all for tone, feel and in most cases, sustained longevity without loss of tone. They are hard to get hold of, so I buy a lot of sets at a time.

Cheers...................................... wahwah

Re: What strings are you using?

I've been trying several brands lately, to get a feel of what's out there.
Currently, I've got 9-54 on my 7 string, using a combination of GHS, Dunlop and D'Addario strings. The high B string is a 12 gauge instead of an 11, for some reason I like my high B string that little bit heavier than an 11.

On my 24 3/4" scale guitars (explorer and les paul), GHS TNT Boomers 10-52. My 25.5" scale guitars have GHS Custom Light Boomers on them (9-46). My 7 strings also have the Custom Lights with a 60 for the low B. Pure balls all the time. :headbang:

Re: What strings are you using?

D'addario XL. They're like the McDonalds of guitar/bass strings.
Wherever you go, you know what they sound like, and how they'll respond.

On my 6-string, I used to use the welded-ball-end sets they made for whammy bars (discontinued). Even though I don't play whammy bars, the strings would hold up under the strongest bends I put on them.

Re: What strings are you using?

On my different guitars, I am now using gauges ranging from 15 to 64, to acommodate B-standard tuning on a few different scale-lengths - all D'Addario, right now.

Re: What strings are you using?

Everly B-52's. 10-46, amazing strings, they last a fair amount of time, sound great on my strat, and if i manage to go a long time(couple months) without breaking them, they don't go dead like the DR's I used to use. but i'm very rough on my strings and the everly's do me well. :)

Re: What strings are you using?

I use D'Addario XL 115's(11 thru 49) on all but one electric. On the other ,which is an archtop I use 12's.... also D'Addario's.

On all my acoustics I use J17 Phosphor bronze mediums 13 thru 56.

No reason to ever change. These all work for me.
