Tell me this if you play a Gibson Les Paul:

What BRAND of strings do you use?

What Gauge?

Do you top-wrap the tailpiece?

High or Low Action?

What type of music do you play?

Thanks in advance!

Bill

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

I love DR strings on ALL my guitars. I use the 11 to 50 guage DR Pure Blues strings on my Les Paul. I do not top-wrap the tailpiece. I rarely have any breaks.

My action is fairly low. I don't have the measurements off the top of my head (i'm still playin around with the height, I've only owned the Les Paul for a year now)

I mainly play blues, funk, reggae and punk (heavy blues style)

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

I use the Gibson Vintage Reissue Pure Nickel 10-46 set.

I don't top wrap. Three out of four of my Gibsons have a TP-6 fine tuning tailpiece.

My action is low enough to be comfortable, but not so low as to buzz on lower frets.

I play (classic) rock, blues, pop and a little country.

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

What BRAND of strings do you use? SIT

What Gauge? 11-50

Do you top-wrap the tailpiece? It's got one of Gibson's stupid tremelos, so this is not an option. If it were, I still wouldn't.

High or Low Action? Low

What type of music do you play? rock ala Government Mule, and all sorts of metal, from Sabbath to new stuff.

What BRAND of strings do you use? GHS, or Dean Markley Blue Steel if I can find them

What Gauge? 10-52

Do you top-wrap the tailpiece? Nah

High or Low Action? Medium on the Gibson and slightly lower on the Gordon Smith

What type of music do you play? With my band I play Indie Rock stuff, but I also play alot of 60's/70's Classic Rock etc :D

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

BRAND: DR Tite-Fit

GAUGE: 11-52

TOP WRAP? Nope

ACTION: medium-low. Not too low.

STYLE: the LP Studio gets used for everything from the blues to thrash. I tend to live in the hard rock/heavy blues most of the time.

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

Brand: Best strings overall (price, quality, tone, longevity) I've used are Gibson Brite Wires for nickel plated steel & Gibson Vintage Reissue for pure nickel wrap.

Gauge: generally 10-46. 11-49 on my Tokai.

Action: depends on the guit. Generally medium-high.

Style: Some blues, mostly Hard Rock/Classic Metal

I've tried the top wrap on a bunch of guits. Hate the change in string attack/recovery (i.e. too sloppy) and "steel-ey" tone change.

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

GHS Boomers .10-46
Low action
Don't top wrap- have seen no real evidence that top wrapping helps with anything other than relaxing string tension
Hard Rock / Heavy Blues

Re: What Strings For Your Les Paul???

GHS custom BOOMers 9-46 low action.
Non top wrap
Rock/Blues[hendrix, clapton ect]
