What strings/gauges are you using?

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

9-42 D'Ads

+1. A great choice for 24.75" scale guitars in standard tuning if you do frequent sustained, fast vibrato bends ala Peter Green and Danny Kirwan. I break a high E string maybe once a year, and that's usually from loosening and tightening with mag swaps.

24.75" scale electrics standard E - Ernie Ball Regular Slinky 10-46
24.75" scale electrics tuned down D & occasionally C - Ernie Ball Power Slinky 11-48
25.5" scale electric standard E - GHS Boomers 10-46 (It has a Kahler and seems to go through Ernie Balls faster) still experimenting...
Acoustic - Ernie Ball Light 11-52
Classical - Whatever was on it when I bought it. Doesn't see much play as I'm not very good at classical guitar.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

11-49s on Gibson-scale/PRS scale guitars with a hard tail bridge. 10-46s on Fender scale guitars or guitars with vibratos.

My strings of choice are either D'Addarios or DR Pure Blues strings. All at standard tuning.

11-50 on 25.5 scale guitars all tuned std. usually dr pure blues but i keep trying other nickel strings. i love snake oil vintage sets but he seems to be out of business

i used to get custom sets of 11/15/19/28/38/54 and still do sometimes but i cant just run to the store and grab two sets and have been lazy.

for acoustics i use elixer nanoweb 13-56. i prefer the sound of martin sp's but since i rarely play the acoustic i use coated strings. i really loved the snake oil acoustic strings but alas...

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

D'addario 11-49s are my favorite currently for both of my Strats. I'm planning on giving Elixir's 11-49s a shot next.
The acoustic takes Dunlop 11-52s, anything bigger and chords become a wishful dream.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

Still using DR Tite-Fit 12-52 in standard /Dropped d and GHS Boomers 13-60 (7 string set sans high e) for d /Dropped C. Still don´t plan on changing anytime soon.

ONE exception: My BC Rich has 13-60 and is in standard tuning.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

I use Dunlops on my Schecter (10-52) and con my Squire (10-46)

For over 10 years now. Love em.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

La Bella HRS 10-46 on my Agile AL2000 and 9-42 on my Ibanez. D'addario EJ12 13-56 on my acoustic.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

My 25.5" scale guitar is gonna get setup in either D or E, and my 25" scale is gonna be in C.

Ahhh.
I actually tried out a 54 (not a Heavy Core, just a regular wound string) for the C on a 25.5 inch scale, and it's as rock solid as it gets.
I imagine the Heavy Core 54 on a 25 inch scale would feel about the same.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

Well, I restrung the Strat and Tele tonight. Ernie Ball Cobalt 9's for the Strat and good old fashioned slinky 10's for the Tele.

First impressions:
I forgot how easy playing is with 9's on a Strat! :O
Cobalts have a weird feel, more friction than the Slinkys
Not much of a tonal difference to justify the price (2.5 x's) I'll monitor for longevity

Slinky 10's are like an old friend, bright and punchy, familiar feel, and for $4 I can justify I monthly change.

We'll see... I'm doing the LP tomorrow with Elixir 10's.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

I haven't changed my bass strings since Clinton was President.
Post of the thread, BTW. ;)

Digging through my box-o-guitar crap I found TWO sets of unopened bass strings. A set of GHS and a set of DR's. My bass is a 5-String and I string it with a High C, so these are 6-string packs. That's like $50 worth of bass strings just sitting there. Hahaha

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

I've been using 11-?? (usually 48 or 50), any brand that isn't too dark. Usually EB Power Slinkys or D'Addario with nickle coated steel wraps. Standard tuning, 24 3/4" scale.

I tried EB Beefy Sliknys for a while, and that 22 g string makes you really work for those bends and vibrato.

D'addario 11-49 on all electrics, except for a few where 10's have the right feel. I'm not really heavy handed, but I can't use 9's at all....not enough tension.

D'Addario 12's/phosphor bronze on acoustics.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

At the moment, anything from straight slinky 10's to wound-G 13's, and whatever in between. My go-to set is 11-52, with or without a wound G, depending on the guitar. But 11-48 is kind of creeping into the mix, and might end up being my go-to set. I always use Ernie Balls when I can, and D'Addarios if I can't get the EBs.

13's on my acoustics. Martin Phorphor Bronze or 80/20. The exception is my '27 Martin 00-28K2, which I keep strung with Martin Silk and Steels. That's to keep from damaging the guitar (it has already had a couple of top repairs).

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

I use Rotosound 10-46 on Electrics in standard tuning and Rotosound 11-49 on Electrics in Eb tuning.

They're all different scale lengths and with small setup tweaks to each, but it works for me.

Re: What strings/gauges are you using?

Dean Markley Blue Steel 10-46 on my 24.75" BC Rich USA Warlock NT and my old platinum Warlock with the odd 25" scale. I usually have those at Eb and E standard respectively.

Dean Markley Blue Steel 9-42 on my 25.5" which is currently at Eb.

Dean Markley Alchemy goldphos 11-52 on the Alvarez DY-45 acoustic (my dad's guitar, but I take care of it).
