What the best WAH pedal....

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

I'm happy with my stock Vox pedal. Never tweaked it.
For what you need it could do the trick. on the other hand, the question is what do you mainly use them for - they are better for rhythm then CB's but don't get the same vocal effect in solos.
Another thing - I never liked the CB's with Strats (maybe besides Buddy Guy's tone) so the guitar you want to use it with and the amp are also important factors.

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

id say just keep the crybaby. i believe the standard is moddable, so just take a stroll on the dozens of webpages out there with moddable wahs, figure out what youd like best in a sound, and do it. entertaining little projects are always fun...

Even if it doesn't work out you haven't spent good cash on another wah that you might not like in the end anyway.

Like I said earlier... I used to hate my Dunlop Crybaby. But the stars are aligned now and I LOVE it. I almost use it too much because I like it so much. I dunno if it's a change in tube amps or what, but it just sounds awesome now -- bone stock. Keep the Crybaby. You won't get much $$$ for it anyways. And there are cheap mods you can buy for it. Check Ebay for those.

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

Thanks for all the replys guys, I'll see if I can find any stores with the Fulltone and Teese Wahs and check them out. But one final question, is it possible to buy a new circuit board for my Crybaby and just retro fit it? If so, who supplys them? Could Stratdeluxer or Geof Teese supply one? I think it would be too costly to send the pedal out of UK and back again! Thanks to all.

RMC is the ultincredible mofo mojo of a truly super lush and very vocal WAH. Geoffery is a great guy to talk to and he is a definite Wizard (no pun intended) full of Wah~passion & knowledge... oh yeah n' mucho talented to boot. Any of his units are a treat to have at your feet. Though I prefer the Picture Wah for its unrivaled fluidity, tone, speak, and action, he'll have the type for you if you just take the time to send in a request of what you're looking for.

With all of that said. Yes its possible to buy a c-board and any sort of inductor that you wish to fit into your own casing but it would have to be another companies work like B.Y.O.C., or Area 51. You wouldn't be able to do that with RMC, or Fulltone. Plus, unfortunately, Geoffery doesn't do custom work any longer (but that's good too cause RMC is growing and he deserves it), as his work load won't permit it, but each of his Wahs are very flavourful and have distinct abilities to cover many applications.

RMC has been approved for the European market fairly recently, and he's expanded his designs to be user friendly with overseas players. He's actually redesigned his units so that it would be very simple to disconnect and just send the board back to him should any work be needed. Check out his site it will have a listing of who carries his products internationally.

You can rock your foot on any wah you'd like. Teese is the essence of Wah.

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

I have the Dunlop original crybaby, and I havn't had reason to try anything else. My friend had a Morley, which was inferior, in my opinion.

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

I have a Morley Bad Horsey that I really enjoy. I like that I don't have to turn it on and it's always ready to rock. The sweep is good too. If I were to buy it again, I would probably go with the BH2, but all in all I'm happy with it. Much more than the CryBaby I had once before.

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

I've been very happy with my Dunlop 535Q . . . I can get any sound that I want out of it and it's been problem free for the last 5 years.

Funny but depressing story for me about the Picture Wah! I bought my PW from Analog Mike...Upon A/B ing my own tricked out Vox 847 wah against the PW,my Vox had a better sweep and better overall tone(to my ears)....I returned the PW and became a pretty avid wah modder from that point on...I've modded probably 50 or more different wahs since....My next favorite stock wah is the Fulltone Clyde series....Geoffrey is a great guy, very nice and down to earth..

One of the keys to getting a very vocal wah,is the inductor, after that you also need the right sweep from the pot and knowing what capacitors to use...It's not a hard pedal to work on or mod,but you do need to know what really makes it sound like Jimi's 67 wah...

Re: What the best WAH pedal....

New...Fulltone....but the best wah I ever played was an original Vox. I wouldn't want to even guess what an original one is going for now.

You could easily pay $300 to $500 for one! Crazy money, unless you'd plan on not using the pedal out and keeping it solely as a time peice!

I gutted my Vox V847 and Installed the Area 51 Circuit board and ICAR pot, this wah sounds amazing no matter what style. I've had Teese and Fulltone all very nice but the Area 51 wah's are excellent.

Where can I source one of these boards and will it fit my Crybaby? If so, roughly how much... I need it shipping to uk. I rehearsed a couple of hours ago and played my wah parts in Sweet child, Bad love and Enter Sandman and just messed around with others and I'm really not happy at the moment. Shame really coz I keep hoping it will cut through... I know it's not my amps coz they are real cool. Anyway, it would be cool to swap the boards and keep with the LTD white casing on my Crybaby. Thanks again to all for replys!! :usa2:

Well I thought I knew my geography a little bit better (and my X-Files too), all of this time I've thought wrong. The well known "Area 51" is on the edge of Groom Lake in southern Nevada. Didn't mean to mislead ya. But that's no big deal in your case since you've got the right efx link up above.

The weeping demon is a very good wah that seems to be "under the radar"

I pimp out the Demon all the time in Wah threads but only a few have bothered to try them out.

Those that have done so have bought them.

I was ready to plunk down hundreds until I tried the Demon and then it was game over. It does everything any player would ever need.

I love my Cry Baby with my Strat, maybe because the pup is a Lace Sensor instead of stock (I'm pretty sure Buddy uses LS pups)? I also really enjoy it with my Tele, NOFX tone all the way!!!! MY friend also has a Cry Baby and uses it with his Fender Jaguar HH and Gretsch Corvette and his Jag sounds wicked through it!! I'm not too huge on his Gretsch, it's a little too dark for my tastes (though I am a fan of Gretsch's).

+1. I heard a Morley wah last night at a show. The guitarist used both a Strat and a Jazzmaster through it and I like my Cry Baby more. No currrent need for me to switch to anything else.
