I have an ibanez roadstar with IBZ pickups , so i believed they were Super 70 and i destroyed one to get the supposed Alnico 8 magnet and what did i found ?
A very thick grey magnet between the poles and another two at the sides !
Do you know what is this pickup ? ( magnet , dc resistance ... )
So if Alnico8 is silver color like alnico5 i am done ; they are ceramics ?? :gurmpy:

Sounds like a Bluesbucker? If it is, those are ceramic magnets. Be careful fab, Super 70's are no longer produced. You will only find them used. You can try ebay, although wicked lester had some. Chill on the forum also bought a bunch of a8 magnets from allstarmagnetics.

Re: What the hell is this ?

The Bluesbucker has magnets only under one coil, and a shim on the other side to support the bobbin. Here's one I took apart:

Re: What the hell is this ?

My Alnico 8's are dark gray top and bottom but silver on the sides where you can see the grinding. If you have other Alnico magnets, compare the weight. Ceramics are much, much lighter than Alnico.

Re: What the hell is this ?

I think they are ceramic mags cause in a Demon this thick magnet make me think of a DD but more bouncy but with hard treebles .
Anyway i have never seen a pickup so hard to destroy !!! :laugh2:

Why did you have to "destroy" it to get the magnet out? That doesn't make sense.

Re: What the hell is this ?

Because it was not screwed on a plate , bobins and magnets were sealed with a kind of resin and seled again with plastic :smack:

Re: What the hell is this ?

Epoxy sealed -- D'OH!!! Yeah, you do kind of need a stick of dynamite to open one of those up...

By the way Chill , you won't sell me Alnico 8 ? first order is gone as i understood ?
For the weight of the magnet , even if thick it's not heavy and sound crap ceramic , too harsh for a Demon .

Re: What the hell is this ?

First order is gone. Just heard back from Zhangliqun to make sure he got rid of all he needed to, so I'll place another order on Monday. I will ship it to you, but we need to work out some way of payment where I do not give you my bank account number (no offense intended, but I try to avoid giving that out, even to forum members!).

Re: What the hell is this ?

C'mon Chill it's not the number of your bank account , i don't need it , it is the BIC and EBAN code needed for direct payment from bank to bank .
Ask your bank if there's any danger , if so i'll find out another way , but this one is free and fast .

My mistake Chill , ijust saw my eban code and it's the whole number of bank account ... we'll have to find another way .
