What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

I had a black Ibanez Roadstar II from 1986 to about 1992, when I graduated College, had a real job and bought a Les Paul Studio. The white one with the ebony fingerboard-then i got G.A.S., and it was all downhill from there!

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

My first axe was an Impact, a Japanese guitar that was loosely modelled on a Tele, but had a trem and individual on/off switches for the two pickups. My dad bought it for me used for £20 in 1974. I modded it quite a bit, and later passed it on to my brother, who still has it. It is actually a pretty decent axe.

My first really decent axe was a '76 maple neck black Strat that I bought in '78 after working all through my summer vacation. Bad choice though, as all my heroes apart from Hendrix and Gallagher played Gibsons. Sold it after a year.

My first really decent axe that was also the right choice was a '74 SG Standard that I bought used in 1980. It was great! Sold it in '85 when I mistakenly believed I'd outgrown rock guitar playing! :crying:

My first guitar was an Ovation/Celebrity Solidbody Super Strat H/S/S that I got back in 1984, I still have it today. It wasn't much of a guitar as far as quality, but it looked cool white body with black hardware. Now my first descent guitar was an Ibanez RG550 in funky Desert Yellow if I remember correctly. Cool guitar, maple fingerboard, H/S/H, super fast neck. Wish that I still had that one.

First-year Squier Telecaster I got used in 1988.

The guy that sold it to me unloaded it because since it was made in Japan it wasn't a decent instrument.

Almost twenty years later that axe is a total tone monster!

My first guitar was a quality guitar. I got it in 1978, and it was an early 70's three color sunburst Fender, Mustang.

My first guitar I think was a samick acoustic my gramd parents give me for Christmas. I traded it in about 3 years later for a yamaha acoustic/electric. I year later I decided I wanted an electric guitar and bought a candy apple red squier strat. Which is an amazing guitar now that i've changed the pickups, tuning keys, and had a graphite nut put an it. The best guitar i've ever owned is my Gibson Es-137. I bought it two years ago when I started to play jazz alot. It has a beautiful blue burst finish and it's tone is amazing.

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

My first guitar was a Yamaha acoustic from the late 70s/early 80s. I don't have a decent electric guitar yet.

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

A 1971 Martin D-35, purchased new in February of 1972. It was sweet then, it's even sweeter now.

An Epiphone Special Model-II and a Vox pathfinder amp, heehee

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

My first guitar is the yamaha in my signature. Two years ago i put an invader in it and ever since then it screams.

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

Back in 1986-87 i worked forever at an amusment park near Toronto called Canadas Wonderland for i think $3.65 an hour... Big bucks! I wanted a Kramer Baretta really bad!!! A white one with a rosewood board. I never got one and i still really like the shape of those Kramer strat bodies on the Barettas..... I saved up $600 and bought a Kramer Striker and a Boss Heavy Metal pedal..... I was in heaven for about a year with that guitar.... then it started to fall apart...... After trying some EVH trem abuse the Floyd post split the wood and the trem fell into the humbucker rout...... I glued it back together but it didn't work very well the trem never stayed in tune. I figured i'd make it look cool buy sanding the finnish off it and spray paint it like Ed's Black and White one on the first VH album..... I distroyed it! But in the end i sprayed it completely white and then splashed different colours on it..... It looked really cool for the 80's. One night i even set it on fire for fun and it burned like crazy because of the cheap ass paint job i did never fully cured. I used a chain for a strap on it like Ed did and thought it was my number one for ages...... It was just plywood! Oneday when i was about 19 my dad came into my room screaming at me and i went nuts and smashed the guitar and threw it at him in a childish rage. In the end it turned out to be a good thing as i had to learn how to put it back together and started my life long lust for guitar repair and customize work..... Turn a negitive into a positive.... When i got older i bought a Les Paul and hung that Kramer on the wall for a few years as art..... It was all busted up, burnt, and miissing pieces but was kind of cool hanging on the wall. When i moved houses about 7 years ago i threw the body away and planned to make a new body for the neck. I have not done so yet. I filled in the Floyd nut area on the neck and started to refret it but have not finnished yet. I will not buy a Floyd for such a cheap neck so i was planning a non trem hardtail strat bridge. I did want to paint the body in almost the same colours i had the original Kramer body in... i have a few pictures of it somewhere to follow..... This time i'll do a good job.

My First Acoustic was a Aria something (cant remember the model )
My First Electric was a Ibanez Gio GRX 70 (which my dad bought me for my birthday)
My First Decent electric... i suppose my MIM Fender Players Strat

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

MY first (and only) acoustic is/was my Dean Exotica Electro Acoustic that I bought several years after I started playing because I wanted an acoustic :)

My 1st Electric guitar was a Black Encore strat with 1 humbucker and Tone and Volume controls that didn't work.

Then I got into Kiss, Aerosmith and Guns n Roses so then I wanted a Les Paul. I got a cheap Tobacco Sunburst LP with Double Cream humbuckers and an action that was actually playable (unlike the Encore :D)

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

my first guitar was a cheri lp clone with a cheri amp.
then I got my ibanez RG:)

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

The guitar that I started playing on was a Landola Acoustic nylon string (Landola is local guitar manufacturer) that my mother had bought a few years back but no one had never used it.

My first electric was a black Jackson JS-30... sold it for some months ago, and have to say that was not a guitar for me at all, when I got a few years back I played quite alot but after awhile my 12-string Yamaha Acoustic took all the interest away from playing electric.

Then bought my tele...and since then I have really started playing electric alot more than acoustic, it's hard to even be at home without playing...but that's just good :D

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

My first axe was a POS Washburn lyon that I got for xmas when I was 12 or so. I think that I banged away on that until I was at least 15 and had saved up enough money for a wine red Les Paul Studio.

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

a harmony strat copy that i traded my friend a bottle of rum for. i drimmeled out the pickguard and re-wired it with gibson p-90's didnt work. at all. not even a litle bit. then i bought a gibson sg faded for 600 dollars. unfourtionately now it is the spokesguitar for emo. i bought a les paul classic but had to sell it to pay parking tickets and now i need money for another one.

Re: What was your first axe??...First Decent Axe??

My first guitar was a terrible "san loga" strat copy, i really hated it.
My first decent guitar i guess would be my epi sg, even though i don´t really care for it anymore.

Now the san loga has a leopard finish and a super dist, still sounds and plays like crap, but at least it looks kinda cool :laugh2:
